Steve,

Funny you should mention that.

My next knife is gonna have silver wire. I just ordered the wire for it today, LOL.

This is a custom order for a Spanish Belduque in damascus.

Here's my concept drawings. They are NOT actual size so proportions may change a little due to the size of the billet I got for it. It should be pretty close though.

What do you think ?

Josh, I like the top pattern! the second pattern is good too, but the area around the "Ball" I think would be difficult to do! But you have the ability! The damascus pattern looks great too! The dots at the end of the wire, will they be silver too? I have used copper carpet tacks for that and I think it looks good!

Josh, I live very close to Jay Hendrickson and A.G. Barnes! And have met both Mastersmiths. IMO both world class silver wire inlay artisans! Mr. Barnes extended me an invitation for a wire inlay lesson!!!!!

Sorry to change the subject of your thread! Love the dagger!

Steve,

The spots at the ends of the scrolls will be SS pins that go through the handle. The other decorative spots will also be SS.

I'd jump all over the offer of an in person lesson ! That's fantastic. Mostly it will help you to understand the basics and avoid some of the pitfalls that can come up.

The final wire pattern will probably end up a mix of thos two patterns. The bottom pattern really woudn't be more difficult than the top one and may actually be easier to get a good result.

The one area thats a little hard to get to come out perfect is the crossovers. If this is off at all it will stick out like a sore thumb. The smaller the scroll the more difficult the crossover is.

I'll do another drawing in actual size that will be my blueprint for making the knife. I'll design the final wire pattern in actual size which will help determine the difficulty of certain aspects of the pattern.

I've been looking forward to this one for awhile so I'm excited to be getting started on it soon.
