This one is for my wife's goldsmith grandfather in Taiwan, I wanted to put something on the knife that he would be familiar with, unfortunately I didn't have gold or silver to hand so I made do with some currency! It's a 10.5 inch gyuto in EN45J with a hairy hamon. Handle is Maidou burl with coin mokume gane end cap and bolster and vulcan fibre spacers. The mokume Gane came from a 200 coin ingot I forged a week or so back. I guess I could have use sheets and made a large ingot in half the time but I enjoy turning things into other things! Apologies for the pictures, we discovered that taking a photo of the mokume was not easy.

This is my twelfth knife now and the challenges have not stopped coming!

Thanks for looking

Dave

VERY nice knife! The mokume game looks gorgeous in your pics, and I imagine it's even more stunning in person.

Nice looking chef's knife blade profile and slick handle to go with it. What kind of grind and finish is the blade?

Super cool knife!

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it. It's flat ground and bevelled to about 30 degrees, I finished it at 1200 on the papers and switched to a 1500 powder and liht etching for the last part.
