Here's my latest, my ninth knife so far, utilizing all of the stuff I have learned up to this point.
The blade is EN45J which I thought would be similar to 1070 and thus great for hamon but even after three quenches I could not get a hamon to show, I can see something but it's no-where near as good as a previous steel I tried.
The handle is a Norwegian Spruce cone that I cast in resin, I struggled finding resin blanks I liked online so saved up for the equipment and started making my own, this blank was the first I ever made and my process has improved a lot since then. The end cap and bolster are coin Mokume Gane, which I love making even though it's a bit fiddly. The wood is Australian Myrtle.
Once again I drew heavily on the search function in this forum, especially when trying to work out where the heck my hamon was.
Seven months since I got given my anvil and picked up my first book, still loving every minute of it.
Thanks for looking!
Dave
