I know this is not a knife, but I didn't know where else to post this. It's basiclly a kubaton on steroids. The handle is 5" of 6061 aluminum, but the special part is the 3/4" piece of 1/4" solid carbide pressed into one end. I'm not into kubatons, but I figured I'd make one a little different and see how I liked it.

How much would you charge to make me one like that?

btw...a kubotan is a self-defense tool.

A kubaton is a SD tool. You can strike with it, use it as a fist weight, or use it as a control tool if you know the right pressure points. They make quite effective non-leathal tools.

Looks well made, nice job. I wonder about the carbide though, it tends to be brittle. Impacts on hard objects (most likely accidental) might chip or break it. A piece of steel would be more durable.

Carbide in solid form is suprisingly shock resistant (less so than steel no doubt). It is the endmill cutters with fine tips that break and make carbide seem overly brittle.

Ouch, can you say nerve damage... Looks nice, don't think you'll have a problem with the carbide but it may be overkill. :D

Overkill is never a negative:D ! A member emailed me and special requested an unhardened steel tipped one that was 6" (aluminum handle) long. Here it is:

The tip is 1018 steel, with a black oxide tip.
And a comparison:

I have sold three for $25 shipped to fellow forumites. That is just about cutting even, because I have to make them off the clock. I cannot make the carbide ones anymore, as I have run out of 1/4" shafts in my carbide recycling bin. The steel one is probally more practical in the real world. If there becomes a demand for them, I can buy my own stock and crank them out. Give me an email if you're interested, along with any custom dimensions or request. I can do a whole lot on the lathe and CNC.
