Hey all, I just finished these two up. They are a couple letter openers. They will be X-Mas and Birthday gifts. Now I just need to make two more.:barf: They are cool looking and all, but not much fun to grind.

Both are a twist interupt patterns using 51 layers of 15N20 and C1095. Handle scales are Amboyna Burl. Blade width (widest) is about 1.0 inches, and blade length is about 7 inches. Over all length is about 11 inches.

I messed up the pattern a couple times, but luckly, I was able to forge that down to the handle end where it is less noticable.

Anyway, let me know what you think, good or bad.

hmmm, my birthday's already past, so what do I need to do to get on your Christmas list? :D :D

Those are very nice, should make the recipients very happy! :)

I hope that whomever is getting them appreciates the fine workmanship. Those things are hot:cool:

Boy those look great!

How are the scales attached? I don't see any pins...
great twist pattern.

I wish I had made a couple of dozen of those to take to my art gallery outlet. They are real high end works.

WoW! they look awsome, and that pattern is great!

Man those are some lucky recipiants, pst., my birthdays coming up!;)

Sweet!
I was just thinking about how nice it would be to get a letter opener with amboyna burl...for Christmas...:D :D :D

Thanks for all the great replies guys. I made one of these before with an integral bolster and that was a PITA so I thought I would try the scales this time. Well they were a pain too!

One of these is for my Dad's birthday coming up in December and the other is for my future father in law's X-mas present. I have one on order from the owner of a restaurant where 5 of my knives are on display. He said it was going to be a gift, probably to his wife, but I was going to make him one anyway as a thank you gift for displaying my knives.

striper28---Hmmm, I will have to think about it. I love the thought of getting into selling just damascus billets, but I don't know if that is the direction I want to take. I will let you know, and thanks for theinterest.

Reg ELLERY---Hey, I can give you a volume discount. ;) But it would probably take me a year to make a couple dozen.

shappa---The scales are attached with hidden pins and epxoy, hopefully they won't come off.

Very nicely done. Before I read what you had to say I was saying to myself they look like letter openers. I've had a knife setting out in the weather for years with a slab handle on it and no pins of any type and it was still together the last time I saw it although I think its history now.....

Wow! Those are awful nice letter openers! Bet they'd double as first line of home defense...

Excellent design and workmanship.

I just had to look again. Really super good craftsmanship. I am impressed and I don't even care for letter openers since nobody loves me enough to mail me anymore.
