This is the first piece I ever started. I started it 5 1/2 years ago after returning from my first show. I helped to man the Reeve's table at the OKCA show in Eugene. Rod Chappel had the table behind us and I got the idea for the grind from one of his pieces.

One side of the blade is ground with double 5" diameter hollow grinds which transition at the tip into convex grinds. The second side is ground with a single 10" diameter hollow grind the length of the blade. Together they give the blade a triangle cross section. The edge bevels have been ground on the double grind side only.

Shooting photos of the single grind side was difficult. The distorted mirror image from the computer monitor in the last photo shows the grind.

Thank you Fooj for the shots.

Dimensions are: blade length = 16 3/4", Overall length = 23 3/8", blade thickness = 7/32".

The handle is mesquite burl from Gallery Hardwoods.

Thank you for looking. As always, critique is appreciated. :)

Yikes! What a majestic calling card for your grinding skills. The good work doesn't end there, either. :)

VERY impressive. I love viewing your work. Keep it up!

That is sweet!! I like the way the wood fits inside the profile of the handle, really sets of the burl, and the mosaic pins you chose look great as well. The grind's look super clean also, and that's alot of steel to take off, well done!

Is the handle area satin finished or is that just the lighting?
