As some of you may remember, about 18 months ago some of my knives sustained damage in a storm surge after Typhoon Haiyan hit our house and subsequent looting took place. Worst affected was my first Fiddleback, a beautiful Kephart. Long story short, Andy kindly offered to look at the knives and do what he could to restore them. I eventually tracked down and reclaimed the Kephart and on a trip to the US paid a visit to the shop and dropped off a few knives. When I received the knives after the major spa service, I couldn't believe my eyes. Most of the knives looked brand new and my special Kephart...?...well take a look at the pictures. (Ken kindly gave me permission to use the before and after shots on Fotki - many thanks).

A picture of the newly purchased knife, June 2013:

The damage sustained, notice the cracking of the scales and separation from liners:

The amazing end result:

also pictured with my original stainless HB which sustained some handle scale damage but looks brand new:

Needless to say I am ecstatic with the results. All those who are part of the Fiddleback community won't be surprised to hear that Andy didn't charge for this time-consuming task. Once again my heart-felt thanks go out to Andy and the crew at Fiddleback. This Kephart was used well before and will continue to be used well and serve as a reminder of how fortunate myself and family were to have come through the terrible events November 2013. Cheers all.

Amazing what the magician can do, huh? Glad to see the knife made it back from the edge.

Nice! I remember your original thread regarding this. I'm sure it feels good having them back in such good condition.

That is a fantastic conclusion to the story of that knife Jules. Definitely some amazing work from the Fiddleback team. Congratulations on having one of your favorite knives re-born from the Forge.

Phil

What a great end to this story Jules! Happy for you.

Really heartbreaking what happened to these knives and amazing how they were able to come back to life in Andys hands. Best part is that your family is healthy and whole.

Great ending for all involved! Thanks for posting the pics, this really is an amazing story.

Thanks guys, it is an unbelieveable transformation and, like I said, a constant reminder of a tumultuous time but also a need to keep perspective regarding material things.

Another feel good story with a happy ending courtesy of those crazy and good heart-ed folks at Fiddleback Forge. Glad everything worked out well for you in the end..

Amazing. Andy and team did an awesome job. Glad you got your blade back to working order.

The people make the company. They are what separate you from everyone else. They are what it takes to make something special in the world and in business, they are a reflection of leadership. Fiddleback is more than a knife company, it's a culture a family a school and so much more. I'm happy to feel like a part of this community and to have some of these beautiful knives. Seeing the work come out of Fiddleback and the affect it has on the knife community is nothing shy of amazing.
I'm just a Knife Knut, but I buy and support Andy and his apprentices because of who they are and what they are trying to do. I'm counting the days for my first Forty Point knife to arrive.
Stay true to this mission and I will continue to sing the support and praise to my friends and family.

Note: I've never met anyone on this forum or from Fiddleback, it's just what I see in the work and from the people.
I must need faster internet, because the sharks here on Friday snap in less than 60 seconds from post. No derby horse has a chance. :P

phew I was reading that like a Stephen King story, with gory pics, glad it ended well.

Glad they took care of you. I always assumed all those beautiful handles on Fidd. knives were stabilized.
