So i've recently taken the leap into more traditional knives and slipjoints.
It all started when i saw a yellow case slimline trapper and just fell in love with it. then next came a buck 110 from wally world. and most recently i picked up these three for $20:
a buck 110 from the early 80s(?), a case 2 bladed stockman from 1980(?) (sorry if i've got the pattern wrong i'm a slipjoint noob), and a camillus yello jacket trapper not sure when this is from.

can any of you guys verify the dates of these?
also sorry for the less than fantastic pics, only have the camera that's on my iphone.)

Nice stuff man. My only objection is that your thread title makes for a rude visualization :D

That Case is pretty cool

That looks like a pretty good leap to me, L.J.!

Is the Case or Camillus in your pocket as we speak?

Carl.

Haha, didn't notice that. does sound like it could be a painful leap!

That 2 dot 110 is probably early 80's.It has 440C steel and those nice flat bolsters. My favorite variation.Could be as early as 77 or so.You can go to the Buck subforum and pinpoint it.I really like all the 3.You definately scored well.Appears as though they would really clean up nicely.

I particularly like the Case moose. But all of those knives are very good pieces.

Well, as they say, "come on in, the water is fine!"

The endless variety of older knives (not just folders) make them a lot of fun. It is always amazing to me that there are so many patterns and tweaks of patterns that have been introduced as job specific blades, but become indispensable to us. Like the stockman, the trapper, the muskrat, and on an on.

Then add on all the different steels....
Then the scale materials....
The companies that have produced their own variants....
The companies that are no longer with us....

It makes it all the more interesting. And when you see one you just have to have, and then find it... WOW! You feel like you won the lottery.

Looks to me like you did quite well on your purchases. Great knives to use and to keep.

Welcome to this neck of the woods!

Robert

Yeah, I can definitely see slipjoints making a heavy dent in my wallet fairly soon! :D

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I'm definitely liking the flat bolsters! And I'll see if anyone in the buck sub forum can pinpoint the date. the buck and the case came fairly dull, but nothing a few passes on a ceramic rod won't fix!

Also, can anyone tell me if the case is in their SS or CV?
Thanks!

Looks to be carbon. If it was stainless it would be stamped on the tang.

thanks! also, one more question, what would the best way to clean these knives up?
thanks again everyone. i have a feeling this is the beginning of a great new relationship between me and slipjoints! :D

Hot soapy water, make sure you get all of the crud out of the joints, dry really well and oil with mineral oil.

Cool. The Camillus knives were good pieces, and as you probably know, they are no longer with us.

Now that you have 110's, don't forget to check out the Buck s/f. You can learn anything you want to know about Bucks, as well as loking at some great pictures of old and custom 110's

thanks, i really like the camillus! and i most certainly do plan on hanging around the buck sub forum a lot more. don't suppose you, or anyone else, could tell me how old the camillus is?

Nice little collection- all very good knives. The Case is a Moose and it is a ten-dot which dates it at 1970 and it is CV. I believe the Camillus is from about 1974-76 (please correct me if I am wrong). And the 110 is from about 1974-1980( one of the really knowledgeable guys will tell you more) Very nice collection. Thanks for sharing.
