Yep. Sent it in to be fix and it was. They did send me back the same one which is cool. Just picked it up to get a jammed sick under my car and i go to open the pliers. Same issue. Although i think it was the other side this time. When i lock the plier handles down on side doesn’t lock. Its just loose.

I don’t get it. The same problem twice? I’ve barely used it since it was fixed. Very disappointed. Again. I like leatherman and have heard nothing but good things about them.

Shows what I know. ;) My wife gave me a Gen1 many years ago. Loved it so much that it took a swim and never came back. She found the Gen 2 on sale and I seemed to have held on to it, but it's just not the same. I haven't had any issues, but I was curious if it was a problem as well.
Wave Plus is the third generation, and this is another ringing endorsement of my decision to stick with the first gen.

I do think think the old school LM tools were a touch nicer. I was never a fan of the matte finish of the tools coming in a decade and a half ago. I had jamming issues with both my of Surge tools. The one thing the P4 gets right is that the design is not conducive to jamming, at the cost of $130.

The Wave gets a lot of things right, but I dont think I will be going back from my P4 any time soon. Love my Surge. It was a wedding gift. Lost the small springs out of the bit holders and I had to be conscientious on how I folded the tool. Aggravating.

Interesting, so Leatherman Wave's might not be the way to go is the gist of what I'm readin here huh?

Besides the P4, any other alternatives? No budget, this is just for those of us can only buy in dreams.

P.S. blame it on my lack of technical or forum tech skills, but Steely_Gunz I am trying to send you some messages that I don't think your are seeing/receiving. Are you able to check our internal message convo's?

Have you tried contacting Leatherman to have the springs reinstalled at no charge? All it would cost is shipping to them, they will send it back at their expense.

I havent seen any come through but I recently closed out my primary email. Let me see if I need to update that to get them.

Yes they did that for me once. It was easy enough. I first requested that they just send me the springs and I could install them myself, but they required that I send it in. No big deal and I got my tool back in a week or two, but they worked their way out again. To be honest, I have never been a fan of the driver/bits on the Wave/Surge. I like the fixed style of tools.

My first LM was a gift from my son 25 years ago. Since then I've carried one LM or another virtually every day I wasn't traveling on an airplane. Currently, my EDC is a Surge with all the accessories. I'll be the first to admit that a $100+ tool should close smoothly without any extra effort, but I learned a long time ago to hold the plier jaws closed with one hand and fold the handles in place one at a time. It's just not an issue for me.
I own at least a dozen LM tools with bit drivers and have never lost a retention spring, but I know it happens. And I know LM will fix it for free (you pay shipping one way). I even know someone who convinced LM to send them some springs no charge.
I also own many Gerbers, SAKs, SOGs, and others. Bottom line, I can't imagine, at this time, carrying anything but a LM Surge, Wave, or Charge.
LM might not be your ideal EDC, but don't right it off too quickly. Just watch YouTube reviews of most any full-size multitool and see what they compare it to...it's almost always the Wave.
Enjoy your shopping. T-A
