This has been out of rotation for a while but I was surprised to see what looked like rust on one of the bolsters.

I thought they were nickle silver (mostly brass as I understand it) and surprised that they would rust. It's a user and I mostly buffed it out with some Flitz.

It's a Buck Limited Ed, done by Wild Bill with stag, small lockback, stag, numbered, mirror polished blade, and fileworked. No model number on it though. Blade just reads Buck Custom USA with the anvil on it.

Are the bolsters on the small knives of a different material?

What is the model #? If it is a 500 it most likely is a SS bolster, while SS is less prone to rust, it will under the right circumstances.

yes that would be a SS frame and bolster..
as i understand all 500 series are SS ..
first i heard of one rusting!
got pict?

Dave,
Sorry didn't photo it before hand and now couldn't really capture it since I polished it out.

Not a real issue for me, was more concerned/curious if that was the behavior of NS bolsters.

It's a user for me which I still enjoy. If it happens again I'll take pics. However, since I know it's possible now I'll keep a better eye out for it.
