I've ordered two of the new tan/green micarta RC-4s with the intention of stripping one of them and possibly putting a patina on it. But I figured I'd better practice a little bit first, so I figured I'd try out the process on an extra RAT3. I stripped the coating and worked my way up to 1000 grit sandpaper. It now has a pretty decent polished finished and I'm trying to decide if I should intentionally induce a patina or allow one to develop over time. BTW the micarta is a little darker because it has had some mineral oil applied to it.
One oddity is that the coating stripped off the blade flats much more readily than the spine or handle. Maybe its because the blade flats are more polished in production so the powder coating doesn't stick as well.
Any suggestions on how to improve the process are appreciated (and apologies in advance for my mediocre photography skills).
