Ten cents won't get you a cup of coffee, but it got me a perfect kit pouch at Meijer. I found it on the clearance cart and since there was no price (but a tag) they just sold it to me for a dime. Ha! I've literally been shopping for something just like this for over a month. Here is it with a few goodies that I find valuable when running around the woods:

The eclipse can houses my first aid kit and some water tabs.

They also just put in a Sportsmans Warehouse in my town, which is a really freaking cool store. It would be nothing to go and max out a few credit cards in that place. Some of the prices aren't outstanding, but more are pretty good and the selection is awesome. Anyway, I've also been on the hunt for a compact and solid cooking pot. I didn't want some $100 titanium wonder, and stumbled on this bit of perfection for $6! It's a 750 ml size. (Bic for size comparison)

I also wanted to show my fixed blade setup. It's my Mora triflex with a little pouch attached using some inner tube. That strap is actually a leg strap (torn of an old sleeping bag compression sack) just because sometimes having a waist strap from a backpack gets in the way of belt attachments. The knife and contents are the magnesium firestarter, ceramic rod, whistle and an LED light.

It's amazing what deals are out there if you're patient enough.

Thanks for looking!

From one dedicated bargain hunter to another, BRAVO! I always go through the luggage areas in thrift stores looking for good camera bags and pouches. Ten cents is about as close to free as it gets :)

My bargains for the week:

A Henri-Lloyd offshore sailing foul weather jacket for my daughter: $5
The thrift store paired a set of Columbia OmniTech pants with it that fit my son: $0.00

A Novara (REI bike line) hydration pack with the tags still on it: $9 ($48 at REI).
North Face Apex pullover softshell: $9 ($89 at TNF)
Sierra Designs raincoat for my son (goes with the pants) $5
Salomon Primaloft jacket (back off, it's MINE!) $10

Where did you say you got all this stuff? I might have to make a road trip.

It's nice to hear about somebody getting some good gear without spending money like a drunken sailor. Keep up the good work!

Well done..........Like you, I am constantly on the lookout for a bargain, especially on quality gear and I find them in the oddest places sometimes.

very nice......

i'm also big on bargain hunting... i frequent the local flea market and thrift stores....

i just picked up a sword cane at the thrift store a few weeks ago.... these folks had no idea it was a sword.... :D i didn't show them either....:foot:

Thanks for the good word, folks! Glad to hear others are encouraged in their bargain hunting. The pouch was a very lucky find, as was the pot.

Groovy, the sheath on the Mora is actually just the cheesy one that comes with it, you just can't see it too well because of the pouch lashed to it. I don't mind the sheath all that much as I'm really only going for functionality with those things.

I'm really happy to get certain pieces of gear streamlined, though. I finally found a knife accessory kit that works for me (shown above) and the right sized pot, etc.. Worth the hunt!

A big sporting goods/camping store was having a Memorial day sale. An extra 50% off on clearance items. Got a Columbia polar fleece jacket for $12, original price was $60. Felt pretty happy with that :)

Nice find there Spooky, you know this is what it's all about, just shows you don't have to rob a bank to get the kit you need !
If you read Cody Lundins book " 98.6 degrees The art of keeping your ass alive " he too is a big bargain hunter and doesn't believe in spending a fortune on kit.
If you come across his book in a thrift store buy it !!!:D

Nice! Po-Boy style! I love it.

Seattle. There seems to be a good mix of outdoor sports, thrift stores and a culture of philanthropy. Goodwill is pretty reliable for clothing and luggage bargains. There is a chain called Value Village that is a for-profit outfit, but they buy from charities that get donated material and do house pick-ups. They get some amazing stuff. I check out a couple St. Vincent stores now and then. We're just getting to garage sale season--- yeeehaw!

It all comes down to time spent. The more you look, the more you find. It has become a hobby-- nothing like the thrill of the hunt :D

The real deal is finding high end outdoor clothing and trading it for stuff I do need. There's a local store that sells new and used and I've done really well that way--- I generally get trade value of two to three times what I paid for the used gear. It ups the ante as size doesn't matter-- I'm just looking for brands like Patagonia, Marmot, and so on. I see so much Columbia stuff I could open my own outlet! I used to sell a lot on Ebay when I was self employed. A 500% markup was not unusual. I once bought software for $3 and sold it for $300-- wish I could do that all the time! There is a massive "unter-economy" out there. I've been wanting to get into rare books, but just haven't got the bug. A few first editions a month would pay a lot of bills.

I find wool and nylon outdoors clothing in the local thrift shops. Nothing like paying $5.00 for a perfect Filson Cruiser or Pendelton shirt to put a smile on my face.

I just finished paying $3.99 for a 1984 copy of Richard Graves Bushcraft. Highly recommended reading, so I looked around and there it was. :D
