I recently (last year) I got very luck on an ebay auction when I scored this M.O.D. issue survival knife still in its issue wrapper with relevant acceptance marks. What was so lucky was that it was mislabled in title and I bought for only £25. instead of the usual £50. upwards that they were going for.

The knife at bottom is my F/S made by John Nowill & Sons Ltd also bought for £28. before the UK ebay ban on sale of knives.

Nice score.....
I still love the Fairbairn........clean and elegant. Just what you need in Glasgow on a saturday night:D

I was lucky enough to visit the Wilkinson factory several times in the 80's and they were still making F/S knives. They were still grinding the old way on huge stone wheels with the cutler lying rather than standing over the wheel.....Amazing

I put a polish on the blade of my F/S and could not believe the results. Wow. What is the steel on their knives now??

Hi the steel is still high carbon with a black polished finnish.
Yeah the wilkinson sword F/S are prety nice but expensive so I just went with the J Nowill version because they still supply the M.O.D.

I try and stay away from most stainless stuff these days unless its a good aloy composite. But thats why I joined the forum to learn and pick up tips.

Regards

I have a J Nowill F/S that I bought back in the 1980's , but my sister brought this A Wright version back for me after a trip to the UK around the same time ( '83). It's made a little better than the Nowill, you can see the Wright version has a brass end nut. If you flick the blade with your finger, the blade rings like a bell.

Thats a nice one!!

I used to have the book about the F/S and have seen quite a few examples by different M.O.D. supliers. I was going to start collecting the F/S models specifically and I would agree with you on the handle of the A Wright being superior and have found the blade on both to be of the same quality I would like to get my hands on a first pattern F/S thoug but they are a bit out of my price range to say the least.

P.S Is that one of the Savage Arms Lee Enfields?

Thanks
An Enfield collector told me it was made at the Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley.
