A little backstory, not knife related, just name related:
My wife and I have been together for almost 9 years now. Before getting married, I bought her a large stuffed Ladybug for a Valentine's Day present, which she promptly named "Manbug" (she names everything, seriously everything). Fast forward a few years, we have our son, 2.5 years old right now, and he sleeps with Manbug every night, he literally lays down and waits for us to put Manbug on top of him then goes to sleep.
To my surprise, I begin seeing previews for a new Spyderco model called "Manbug!"
On to the knife:
I received the grey G10 version in the mail yesterday. To see such a small knife manufactured with such great precision is another testament to the Spyderco line. The blade is super sharp, lockup is super strong, no blemishes on the G10/bolsters. For smaller hands, this is a wonderful little knife and this model easily impresses with its aesthetics.
Planning for the Future:
When I was growing up, I had a lot of cheap non-locking folders as my first knives, and perhaps they served as good "learning experiences" with knives, but I want my son's first knife to be something of quality, good small-hand ergos, and also strong lockup. Not only does the Manbug satisfy all those requirements, it also has a special namesake for my family. When my son's ready, this will be his first knife. It will be quite some time before he gets this Manbug, but in the meantime, he'll sleep tight with his current one.
All in all, thank you Spyderco for another great knife. By the way, my wife immediately said "I want one" before I even told her the name. After hearing the name, she mentioned "why not in a soft red or pink?", so there may be a market there...
