The g-10 scales on my Manix are losing their black color, just like Michael Jackson (and also like Michael, my Manix is not allowed anywhere near children)! I use it at work, and I use chemicals such as naptha, laquer thinner, polane paint, cutting fluid, coolant, and various oils. Could any of these be taking the color away from the g-10, they're turning grey.

Michael Jackson has G10 Scales? :D

I have not heard of that happening. Might they just be dirty? Mine looks similar and I have never exposed it to chemicals.

Clean it, scrub it, rinse it, maybe put a little oil on it, and see if it isn't black again.

It used to be oh so black though! I've tried cleaning it with soap, maybe I need to take it out of the suburbs ;) .

Clean it off, and put either a light oil,(rem oil) or WD-40 on it. It will be back to normal. The white just means the G10 is drying out a little, it does the same thing when you grind or shape it.

tisk tisk.....I have seen this before. The clear solution is to just get rid of it. In fact, give it to me. You should not have to bare a knife that is not black, I'll take one for the team;) .

I've seen it happen when I got brake cleaner on my G-10 scales.I rinsed it with Dawn detergent and water. Then Wd-40 after it was dry,and it seemed to do the trick.

Samhain and Tombstone have got it right. WD-40 should restore the color. It works great on my Gunnar Grips.

i too have seen spydie G10 fade, while wd40 will help its not a permanent solution, dont know that there is.

Am I the only one who thinks that slightly greyish charcoal color looks rilly kewl?

Just clean it and don't worry about the color. Now if the scales start chipping and breaking, now you have a problem.

You could always try some thing like a Back to Black or mothers bumper dressing for cars. I use it on my MKII Jetta when the bumpers turn grey and it works great. Another common fix for fading black to grey is surprisingly peanut butter. The oils in it are very nice and penetrate well and don't wipe off and leave a residue.
