Greetings all, having just replied in Triquetra's thread... I'm motivated to post a thread with my Colossus with it's contents to see if I meet all y'alls approval and look for any suggestions to add or subtract. I think I'll list everything, then try to explain which compartments they are in.
The stuff:
1. Fire making stuff: One box of waterproof matches (Coleman), a 35mm film canister with vaseline coated cotton balls, Swedish firesteel with striker.
2. One pair of Wolverine work gloves
3. one approx. 5" small pry-bar (the kind you find for a couple $ at hardware store)
4. one small roll of duct tape, 2"x25' I think, in a zip-lock sammich bag.
5. an approx 6"x5" piece of cardboard with flitz on it. ( simple strop)
6. a BK-11
7. approx 50' of paracord (minus a couple of feet used for a lanyard or two)
8. Coleman emergency blanket (aluminized polyester) 53"x82"
9. one plastic garbage bag, waste basket sized.

Items 1-9 are in the main compartment, divided up into the various pockets.

10. 1 cotton red bandana
11. one bound memo pad, 4.5" x 3.25" x 80 sheets
12. one extra fine point micro sharpie
13. one DMT fine grit folding diamond sharpener, "keychain" sized.

10-13 are in the top zippered compartment.

14. one emergency yellow Fox 40 whistle.
15. one zip-lock sammich baggie with a dozen or so packets of Splenda.
16. one packet of foam ear-plugs.

14-16 are in the small zippered pocket on the very front.

17. one 1.1 oz bottle of 29% DEET bug dope in an aerosol container.
18. one 1 oz. tube of Coppertone sport ultra-sweatproof spf30 sunblock.
19. one Leatherman Wave
20. one plastic pill container with: Tums 750mg, Ibuprofen 200mg, Tramadol 50mg, Zantac 75mg, Immodium. All with dosing on little labels.
21. one small med kit with: small roll of cotton Kling, multiple bandaids, telfa pad, triple Ab ointment, alcohol swabs, one roll of 2" vet wrap, more Ibuprofen and Zantac, one tounge depresser cut in half, one pencil, and used to have a no. 11 scalpel blade (took it out last time I flew)

17-21 are in the smaller zippered compartment in front of the main compartment. The bottom half of this is so far empty.

The "CCW" compartment in back thus far only holds a Maxpedition universal holster and a two double mag holster. This remains empty, as I live in fricken Illinois.

Malice-clipped to the "rear" side is a Maxpedition mini Roly-poly. This will hold either a 1 liter Nalgene bottle, or two .5 liter commercial water bottles.

I forgot to add: one Cyclops (?) flashlight similar in size to the Surefire G3 Nitrolon. This is also in the main compartment.

I plan to add: Surefire battery holder with 6 batteries, a half dozen or so sturdy zip-ties, some kind of fleece or wool hat, a larger sturdier garbage bag, a few more empty zip-lock sammich bags, a disposable lighter, will likely upgrade the cardboard/flitz strop into a small piece of wood with green compound on leather.

So, how did I do? What shall I add?

the small ccw compartment can be used to hold maps, small books, and small water bladders which you can run a hose from it to your mouth along the should strap. or atleast thats what i use the ccw compartment on my fatboy for.

a small fiskars pruning saw or a pocket chainsaw wouldnt hurt either.

esbit or trioxane tabs work well as emergency fire lighters. maybe a small piece of pitchwood/fatwood might be a good idea too

i got a g.i. canteen cover and put a canteen stand, cup and canteen inside. you can mount it to the side of your colossus with malice straps and now you have a water container as well as a means of boiling water to purify it. also if you throw in a few MRE's into there you'd be able to spend the night.

some water purification tablets might be a good idea as well.

possibly some snaring wire, i know u have the paracord but just might be a nice addition. steel fishing leader seems to be a good candidate for this.

also a few hooks and a few split shots may be nice as well... you can always kick open rotten logs or dig up worms for bait.. combined with your paracord you can set a line and leave a few baited hooks in the water and come back later to claim your dinner.

possible eye protection is nice, especially if you wear glasses. those old glasses you replaced but still work are nice to throw in just incase your glasses get damaged in the field you'll have a spare set to use.. although they may not be as fashionable :)

also i didnt see a compass in there.

i prefer a dry-sac over zip loc backs because they can be used to hold water. much more durable and can form a handle. also you can trap air inside the bags and use them as PFD's.

cheers.

Is the Splenda supposed to be a source of energy? If so, the regular kind is zero-calorie.

Mongo, Thanks for posting this. I'm very interested in a Colossus for a decent in-car/office etc emergency bag. Just can't really decide between it and a rucksack though.

How does it feel to carry? Does it tend to move around much if you quicken pace or cover rough ground? Does it 'get in the way'? Those are things that makes me think a rucksack might be better for me.

I do like Max gear though, having a few smaller pouches and a Jumbo Versipack. I like the versitility and organisational ability. And the toughness of course.

Any chance of some pictures?

I would just buy one, but I can't risk it right now if it's not right as I don't really have much cash left. And getting one in the UK is expensive!

Cheers,
Rick.

I can almost understand regular white totally processed sugar, but Splenda has absolutely no positive attributes. Besides having zero calories, it's got some seriously bad side effects. I won't touch the stuff or any product that lists it as an ingredient.
