In the past I gave Sal a little heat for lock strength on knives. Turned out it was unnecessary concern. I finally got around to using an Endura I had, but I also purchased a Stretch recently. I never really used the Endura cause I was using other knives.
I went out on a camping trip with some guys from work. All in all there were about 15 of us. It got time to cook some food and then the questions started coming out.
"Hey, do you have a knife"? Now, when I am at work, these guys are constantly telling me I'm nuts for carrying 2 knives for my EDC. To be honest, they'd think I'm crazy for carrying 1 knife, if I did. So, food prep time came and we also needed some sticks to roast some food on and I passed the Stretch around and I was using the Endura for myself.
I was impressed at how well they cut, and how well they hold their edge. There were meats, onions, mustards, peppers and all that type of stuff. The VG-10 held an edge much better than I thought it would and also didn't stain or rust, even hours after of sitting. I wasn't able to clean it properly until the next morning and there still wasn't any patina or rust or anything like that.
During the food prep time, a guy came up to me and asked me about Spyderco knives, cause he got one in hand and loved how it felt and the ease of cutting.
I gave Sal some crap, like I said, but these two knives held up very well and are now part of my EDC rotation. I will probably be buying 3 more, an FFG Endura, a Wave Endura, and a Stretch. The VG-10 steel is now one of my favs. The only knock I can give the Endura is I don't like the unused space around the pivot area. I think it could be used as a choil, similar to the Stretch design. That is minor though.
Love Spyderco blades since these are little lightweight work horses! Thanks Sal for designing and producing such great knives. I don't know which one of these I like better.
