My Military seems slow to open compared to my Manix XL and Persistence

I'm comparing the ease of opening of my military to my manix XL and there is definitely a difference in smoothness and amount of drag, if you will, opening the military compared to my Manix XL. Hell, my persistence is much smoother to open than my military.

Does anyone else have this issue, or how can I remedy this?

I have a Military C38GPE.

Any grittiness when opening and closing, especially when the ball-bearing "detent" in the liner is in contact with the side of the blade tang?
If none or very little, it may just be breaking in - leaving a small groove that will smooth action over time.

Also, you DO want some detent, which is one of the reasons I like the Military, it's highly unlikely for the blade to come open on its own despite the relative weight of the blade (the distal taper probably helps).

I found my Tenacious and Persistence (and the Lum Chinese, etc) to be very smooth, but to also have a weak detent despite pivot screw adjustment... YMMV.

If it's new, then it will take time to break in just like anything else. It doesn't use ball bearings or a bushing pivot system.

The military I bought used here on the knife exchange. I loosened the pivot up a bit, but that didn't help. There isn't any grittyness feeling when opening. Maybe needs some lube?

Wash it with warm soapy water.
Open it and close it to get the soap into the pivot and washers
Rinse it with cool, clean water.
Use compressed/canned air to remove the excess water

Should be good to go. If you can't open the knife smoothly, it could either be technique or something else. I really wouldn't bother worrying about it too much. It is a manual knife afterall. They don't normally open as smooth as flippers with bearings. I'd say things are normal.

Could also be something simple, but incurable. The size of someone's hand, the length of their thumb, and other physical characteristics can make some knives work better for them than others.

oil it down also.

I've got 3 Militarys, and they're all among my stiffer Spydercos, even when freshly cleaned and oiled. Always assumed it was a deliberate design feature.

Try loosing the stop pin screw a little. If the stop pin is too tight it'll make the G10 pinch the blade no matter how loose the pivot is.

I think the the liner lock and large detent ball may make it a little less smooth that some other spydercos.
