I finished up my modifications to a Sheffield British M.O.D. (Ministry of Defense) survival knife. It was butt ugly when I first got it. The huge handle slaps overlapped the tang and they were fastened with big
copper rivets. The edge was so thick that without thinning, it would've never gotten sharp. The black phosphate finish was another thing I didn't like. Most of the blade profiling was done using sandpaper taped to a thin rubber pad glued to a flat sheet of 1/8" aluminum and a course/fine DMT duo diamond stone . I used a scotchbrite wheel on my buffer to remove some scratches and remove the original finish of the blade. The handle is a hemp wrap and the original sheath that was very flimsy was replaced with a Spec- Ops sheath. The knife fits like it was made for it. I was thinking about improving the finish on the blade, but this knife is going to be used and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
