My mom wants my knives!

Hi all,
I just had to share this. Since I got them, my mom has seen my dragonfly and my saver salt. She's used both: the dragonfly to open some toys for my niece and the saver salt to cut back some bushes we were trimming. This past weekend, she asked to see them again and actually tried to steal my dragonfly. I guess I'm gonna have to get her one. :) To explain exactly why this is funny to me, you have to understand that my mother has been exasperated with my father and me for years over our obsession with sharp things. I actually own knives that Dad doesn't and vice versa and we're always swapping knives without the other knowing. She thought it was dumb. She now wants a dragonfly and a saver salt. She's got arthritis pretty bad in her hands and she likes the ergos on the dragonfly as a knife for her purse (it isn't as small as the little SAK she carries) and she likes the other for doing stuff outside. Too funny. But hey, she's a convert. :)

Way to go. Get the whole family involved. Another Spydie addict in the making.:D:thumbup:

My mom carries a dragonfly and uses the crap out of it but treats it right. My dad has a ZDP endura and treats it like a dollar store knife, you would not believe what he can do to ZDP it almost makes me cry.

The only thing I can get my mother to carry is a Red Leatherman Squirt S4. I'm thinking of getting her a White Dragonfly or something.

Yes, us girls are being assimilated. :p I was just floored by this. I'm glad she likes them though. She doesn't care about anything else as long as it doesn't hurt her hands, she can open it, close it, and use it. I think that's fantastic. I talked to my dad after i posted this and he was trying to talk me out of getting her one. I'm not listening, sorry dad. She wants one so I'm gonna get her one. Probably a dragonfly for now and a salt for Christmas.

It's always fun when someone new finds the usefulness of a Spyderco especially when it's a family member. I like to give away Spydies as gifts to my friends and family when I can. In fact I just gave my father a yellow Pacific Salt for Fathers Day for his fishing tackle box. I also just got married and gave all my groomsmen engraved SS Dragonflies as gifts. :)

Might also introduce your mother to a Cricket. I have had a few of my female friends ask me for those

I started chuckling the minute I read the title of your post, and haven't quit yet.

It's always great when someone discovers that, far from being some kind of horrible, fearsome weapon, a good knife can be an awfully useful thing to have around. I dragged a ood friend over to the Spyderco factory on Saturday, and after being around me for about three years, he ended up buying his first knife - at age 43.

Thanks for sharing.

That's awesome! I'm in a similar situation, but my mom has been afraid of knives all her life, and is slowly coming around.

She has taken interest in my Spydie orange ladybug PE after using it for a little bit, and recently mentioned she wouldn't mind having a 'little' knife like my orange one, but with teeth. That is such a huge statement!

I picked up a ladybug SE H1 for her in bright yellow for her upcoming birthday. I have a feeling she is going to love it. :)

My mother carries a SE Lightweight Cricket every day. My wife carries an engraved SE SS Cricket most days and a PE Carbon Fiber Cricket on Sundays and holidays. My sister-in-law leaves the edc to my nephew who has a nice collection for his age.

My wife is the mother of three, and she carys the Pink Native i bought her for Valintines day.

I like the look on her friends faces when they ask what it is and she shows them....

My wife uses her pink delica all the time -- she keeps it in the changing table drawer :)
