No not that way :) I love my moras

My carbon 511 is my backpack knife and I took it out tonight and noticed a few rust freckles so I decided to do a patina on it.

I figured I'd have some fun and do some mustard stripes before dunking it into the vinegar but now my blade smells horrible and I don't want it to smell up my pack while its stored

Is there any way to kill the smell or should I just pitch it and cough up the $10 for a new one?

I know the smell. :D After a forced patina, I just scrub mine down with dish soap and hot water, dry, then put on a thin layer of mineral oil. The smell should diminish quite a bit over a short time (the washing and oiling helps this).

edit: Speaking of foul odors, just wait till you pull a blade out after a good soak in a ferric chloride solution. :barf::barf::D

Ok thanks for the info!

I washed it with dish soap and hot water right after I washed the mustard off so ill give it over night to air out.
