When it comes to gift giving I just plain suck. Gift cards are about as personal as I get.
However, this year I decided to go all out and handle some knife blanks for my mom, sister, dad, and myself.
For my mom and sister I got a couple green river paring knives and two condor woodlaws for my dad and I. My dad has always been interested in the knives I rehandle. He’s not a knife enthusiast but he is a sucker for some nicely finished woods and lately has expressed an interest in a decent belt knife. My mom got her first decent kitchen knife a couple years ago, a Henkel’s paring knife, and that is all she uses now. My sister, well, hopefully she’ll appreciate her paring knife. She has never expressed a bit of interest in any form of cutlery, but who wouldn’t like a fancy paring knife, right?
I’m doing cocobolo handles with ivory micarta liners and brass pins on all of them. I was going to make them all personal, but I quickly realized that that would get expensive FAST.
Everything came in the mail yesterday and I’ve already started gluing the wood and micarta.
I’m really getting pumped. I even started sending my sister random pics of raw materials with no explanation just to toy with her.
Here’s the raw materials with a batch of handles already in the gluing process.
