My most epic knife and WIP to date: Battleship Texas

Welcome, Shop Talk folks. Many of you don't remember the old days of the EPIC WIP's by Bruce Bump, Nick Wheeler and others. Well, I'm going to try my best to re-create those days. I have a great collection of unobtainium- various parts from the USS Texas, a battleship that saw action in WW2 at Omaha Beach and Okinawa.

Here's my plan. I'm going to host this thread almost entirely in my maker sub-forum. I'll use this thread here to let you all know when I make updates, so you don't have to check my forum all the time unless you just want to lol.

Lots of drama today. Forge welding day #5 likely tomorrow.
 
Major thread updates. Got the blade polished out to 600, then switched over to fittings. Forged the fittings billet a little, then cut the parts, then forged them to shape a bit. In this pic, everything's roughed to 220. Stopped for the evening after fluting the guard and polishing everything to 400.
