440C is a great steel - not super high end - but a great all around performer.

Gangrel, i have and used the pocket protector model knife from S&W and found it to be ok. i liked it well enough but found it too small to work with.
as for the 440c, it held an edge pretty good and i think Taylor did ok with the heat treat. i have 440c from benchmade and there is a BIG difference between the two. i think your knives will do good for you. but this is just the start, you will find yourself wanting more and more knives and looking for better quality. good luck!

I've already been eying some new stuff and now that I know what the good stuff is, I will be buying some more.

Any thoughts on a SOG 2000 fixed blade?

Howdy, and welcome ! I currently own several of the S&W line from Taylor Cutlery, including the tanto that you have. The only problem I have had is : under rapid deployment, the thumb studs will strip threads and become loose. This is because the thumb studs create the backstop for the blade. Don't get me wrong, I like my S&W's, I have 11 now IIRC, This is the only problem I have had , PERIOD ! Lots of folks will tell you S&W's are crap, but if you take care of these knives, they will take care of you! Hope you enjoy your ride here on BFC! Marty

I have a pair of the Smith & Wesson HRTDR fixed-blade "Bowies", and I find them to be excellent knives for the money, and a cool design.

Thanks. I received my pair of (matching) S&W/taylor CK6C, which is a bigger version of the ExtremeOps witha thicker blade. I love it, but the edge on the tip is a little off-center, which seems a little sloppy to me. Other than that, it's a nice daily carry knife.
