Well this is long overdue, but I've only recently been able to break free from my girlfriend long enough to get back here to the Cantina. My movie model by Bura came in so I'm going to share some thoughts with you on it, my fellow forumites.

First I want to make absolutely clear to everyone that I got this for only $95.
After tearing into the box I was greeted with a huge kuk in an equally huge scabbard. The kuk rattled in the sheath and was quite loose. I pulled the massive blade out with little effort and marvelled at its shape, heft, and luster. I inspected it closely for rust and found only a few small patches. One larger hazy rust spot was easily eliminated with some Colgate and finger rubbing. The real rust was on located on the chakma and karda. The handle is a thing of true beauty with only one small fill spot.

The spine is very well done until it reaches the top 1/4, where the grind is a bit uneven.

After wiping the oil that it came soaked in, I noticed these weird water spot looking areas. I've tried dishsoap and water but it hasn't worked. I'm hoping it's not permanent. I may have to buff the whole blade out.

But amidst all the problems - I will have to say. It is a beautiful thing and I have absolutely no regrets in purchasing it. The unique shape of this kuk would lend itself well to zombie destruction duty. I've fixed the looseness of the scabbard by installing two leather strips on the inside of it and gluing them down with a glue called "Amazing Goop" - which, despite its relatively low cost and cheesy name, has never failed me in a variety of repair jobs. The edge came much sharper than either of the Ang Kholas which have been sent to me.

I'll post about the AK's next - I still need to return the damaged one to Yangdu. I haven't forgotten - I've just been swamped with boyfriend duty for the past 10 days.

I've seen strange spots on various khuks and they seem to come off.

I like the Movie Model a lot. Once you heft one, you do.
Be careful with the sheath or you'll poke a hole in it like I did mine.

Zombie destruction duty. Aweseome. I once had a dream that I was hacking through zombies in a shopping mall with my AK. It's awesome that you thought about that.

shao.fu.tzer I had the same problem with a Foxy Folly I received recently. Since it is gonna be a worker anyway I prefer the blades in satin finish instead of the high polish. I used a piece of maroon Scotch-Brite and Dawn dishwashing soap under running water to put the satin finish on.
Doing so removed every one of the strange spots and now the blade is beautiful. I also did the same with the handle thereby removing a lot of the rouge in rough preperation for my mineral oil and Ballistol finish I like on the wood handles.
It creates a nice shiny but sorta matte finish that I love for a working knife after the oil is applied but you'll think what the hell did I do to my handle after the soap and water?;)
Actually about the only khukuris I like in full polish is the Kothimoda. There's just something honest about a khukuri in work ready finish that's pure elegance! :D  ;)
I also like blued blades and the white metal as blued as it can be, sort of a mottled finish that's at least darker and less shiny so it doesn't send out shine in the woods.

Wicked, eh?

The MM rocks, and that one was a great price too.

Noted that same haze on a 14" BDC user- no biggie, but odd.

I've had similar spots on many of mine. It's not a problem, on mine it was due to the oil coating on the blade. If you want to remove it, hot water and mild detergent will do the trick; just be sure to thoroughly dry and re-coat the blade with wax or oil to prevent rust.

By the way, you got a great deal on that one, good score!

I've used hot water and dish soap to remove the spotting. Windex and some buffing works after a couple of applications. I've also just buffed the blade rigorously until I felt some heat on my shop rag and that did it too. As stated its just oil.

I was working on removing the spotting on a few of my recent purchases as well last night and almost lose my finger tip with my new YVSA. WOW I felt that baby cut right to the bone! My fault, was distracted and knew better than to handle a blade without a clear mind.

Great blade, I have so many reviews to do myself. Love reading user reviews like this and I agree with YVSA I like a satin finish and thought about bluing a few myself.

Gotta run,

What Aardvark said. If you don't have any metal polish or chrome polish for your car, try your Colgate.:) Toothpaste is a pretty good mild polish.

You sound accomplished already. I look forward to your future contributions here.

Once again, words of wisdom from you all, which I'll put to good use. First thing tomorrow I'm going to try the dishsoap method again but with the water cranked to a higher temperature. I forgot to mention that I had almost lopped my finger off within minutes of first playing with this kuk. I didn't realize the top edge was sharpened. So keep that in mind if you intend on purchasing one. I don't mind - it just startled me. Luckily (or unluckily I suppose) I have thick hand skin so I didn't bleed. I just have this giant painful slit in my hand that hurts whenever I do anything. Thanks for the words of encouragement - I look forward to owning more kuks in the near future so I can do more in depth reviews. I need comparative data!

In depth reviews....lol anyone else get that joke or am I just sick in the head? OUCH my finger still hurts too.

Sorry I'm punchy tired...lol

Seriously great reviews and keep it up and welcome to the gang. Sounds silly coming from me but I've been here enough and have full fledged HIKV so that's gotta count for something.

I've gotten those spots before as well, try Flitz to rub them out. Or go chop a bunch of logs, the scratches that leaves will distract your attention from the spots. ;)

What I found that works really well, the "teflon cleaner" type pads, they won't scratch, and HOT water and Dawn. I just cleaned my Munk Cleaver and Bhutan that had spots came out spotless.
