So as mentioned in a couple other threads, I've been looking for another fixed blade (previously only owned the Fallkniven F1 and a Blind Horse Knives Small Tiger Knapp) and have always liked the looks of the RAT lines (both RAT Cutlery and Ontario's versions) so have been lurking around here for the past week reading up all threads of interest.

After learning more about the whole Ontario situation, I decided to only buy the RAT Cutlery designs, which seem to be the superior product based on everything I've read anyways.

I ordered a plain edge RC-6 from KSF on the 16th, got it this morning, and after handling the RC-6 I couldn't take it anymore. I opened and closed the Izula and RC-4 web pages on the KSF site several times trying to convince myself I don't need anymore knives right now (I ordered three just last week - 2 Spydercos and the RC-6). I was also telling myself to wait til the accessory handles for the Izula were available and make one purchase since we get nailed on customs/duty here in Canada.

Temptation won and I just ordered the black on black RC-4 and black Izula. Now I just have to wait the week out to get them! LOL

As I mentioned in an email to Derrick and Wendy, there should be an addiction group for this!

RAT fever is curable. The cure is to buy more RATS. Maybe not cheap, but it is the cure to your fever.

Welcome to the pack

Welcome to the RAT pack.

As for Game's advice...He is still ob viously in deep deep denial We just can't buy and use knives like Normal people.

There is still hope however You can pack up all yur knives and send them to me I'll take care of them as a responsible party.

Thanks gents. Photos (and there have been some really nice ones posted here) do not do this knife justice. If I'd known it would feel and look this nice in hand I would have just ordered the Izula and RC-4 when I ordered the RC-6.

The funny thing is that I live in a condo in mid-town Toronto and rarely get out into the woods or rural areas where I can play with these bad boys. I go to the cottage or on hikes maybe a few times a year. I'm thinking this situation is going to have to change this year.

Just think of it as an investment in your future cutting ability.

I gotta justify this somehow. I've easily got 40+ other knives from Victorinox, Wenger, Spyderco, Benchmade, Fallkniven, Beretta, White Horse and others. I just wanted something more robust for wood chopping, etc...a really strong durable woods/camp knife that'll at least give me a fighting chance should I encounter Jason Vorhees in the woods! I've been eyeing the RTAK II for at least the last year or two but am glad I got the RC-6.

you KNOW there is no going back!
Yeah I know. :o I've loved knives since I was a kid and have always EDC'd at least 2. Again, living in an urban environment it's hard to justify walking around with several knives, especially in light of the rash of stabbing incidents that have been happening here lately. These RATs will be left for hiking, camping and rural trips unfortunately. I may venture out with the Izula from time to time when in the city though. Will have to see how it goes.

Thanks for the prompt shipping on my RC-6 Derrick. I'm surprised I got it that fast.

Cheers!

I have owned TOPs knives and others and have come to the conclusion that the RAT KNIVES for the price and warranty are the best in the knife world.....

Oh boy, you're on a very slippery slope there. Soon as you start heading out to the woods more, you'll start hanging out in the Wilderness and Survival forum. Then, not only will you be buying RATs, you'll also be buying a load of custom knives from the outstanding makers that are frequently seen on the forums. And on top of knives, the WSS crowd will talk you into buying all sorts of other related gear, too. Look in your wallet right now. You see that green stuff? Take a good look at it, because you'll never see any of it there again. You may even want to take a picture to remind yourself what that looks like in a few years.

Agreed. My wallet's plum empty, and I've only been hanging around here a few months. The scary thing is, I may have to quit my job so that I can devote more time to improving my wilderness skills. But then how do I pay for cool new gear?? Argh....

Actually I've been a member of this and lots of similar forums for years and also check out the Wilderness and Survival forums here too. I'm a gadget geek by nature and have more back-packs, flashlights, knives, hiking gear than I'd want to admit! I've spent more than my share of $ on this stuff, believe me.
I don't see myself going into hi-end custom knives. As much as I like them, I can't justify the high price for something I know I wouldn't be able to bring myself to use. I have a hard time as it is using the stuff I have because I don't want to wear them out! Stupid I know.
Being from Trinidad I make it a point to do some sort of hike or wilderness outing every time I go back to visit. I've done midnight hikes to the North coast to watch leatherbacks lay eggs, day hikes through the rain forest, walking through rivers, etc. The one thing I haven't done since I was a kid in the scouts is overnight camping in the rain forest.

congrats natural, post pics of the entire family when you get them!

Out of curiosity, which spydercos did you order?

Hi Jake yeah I'm long overdue for posting new pics of my stuff on several threads here.

I ordered a black PE Delica4 and one of the new yellow PE Ladybug3s with the H1 steel. I've already got an old SE Delica, a black PE Dragonfly, black PE Jester (which I'm not using since they've been discontinued), black combo-edge Ladybug from the early 90s and a black PE Salt1. I had moved away to Benchmade mini Grips for a while but wanted to try these new Spydies.

BTW is your dad Jack Bauer? He's my hero! :-)

Welcome to da Rat Addicts club!

The trick to surviving your addiction is to purchase a RC blade and savor using it before getting the next one.... but you WILL get the next one, and the one after that... mostly because you enjoy the one you have so much, but also because Jeff and Mike and the guys at Rowen keep making terrific products.. :)

Thank you sir. I think I've already messed that up then because my first RC is the 6 and I only held it in my hands for a while yesterday when I broke down and ordered the Izula and RC-4. Wish I could take the 6 out and play but I'd get lots of strange looks where I live and someone would probably call the cops on me. I live in a very "yuppie" part of Toronto where there are lots of sheeple.
It's funny, I'm sure most of us have experienced this where people look at you funny and ask why you always walk around with a knife or a flashlight, and make fun of you but then who do they come running to when the lights go out or they need to cut something?

Actually, and this may be bad news to you, but a lot of the custom makers here will make you a great knife for around $150 or even less, which is *darned* good. My favorite and hardest-used custom was actually well under 100 bucks.

Good to hear you're already set for other equipment!

Now why'd you have to go and tell me that?? LOL Actually I wouldn't mind at all being able to get a Busse or Swamp Rat(?). Those are nice knives!

Welcome ,sorry I missed this thread..

Not a problem sir, I think you welcomed me in another thread I recently posted in.
I'm glad to make the acquaintance of such a fine group of people. I've been reading a lot of the threads within this forum and admire the ethics and morals displayed here. I've been a long time forum member over at a photography site and have stopped participating there for the most part because it seems it's turned into a pissing contest over there (pardon the expression).
I appreciate when like-minded individuals can come together to discuss mutual interests in such a respectful fashion. It's even greater when the manufacturer and distributors of the same products take such an active role also.

I think I'll be sticking around here for a while.:)
