My nephew is living in Anchorage Alaska. He is learning how to be a knife maker. I have a large vise that he could use in his endevors. As it weighs 80+ pounds, shipping is big bucks. Any one have any ideas?? :) :)
Thanks,
Dave.

Figure out how much it cost to ship (cheapest method from your local area).
Send half the shipping money to your nephew and he can buy a pretty nice vise with it. :D

Where do you live? Almost every thing comes up here by barge or air. If you live on the west coast Lyndon Transport will get it there. Also look into Span Alaska http://www.spanalaska.com . One option be to bring it as excess baggage and use it as an excuse to come up and go fishing.

SOG - You make a good point. :)
AKIVORY - It weighs 85 pounds. It is a real beast, made by REED mfg. co. in Erie Pa. btw, I am in Kersey, Pa. which is about 3 hours NE of Pittsburgh. I like the fishing idea. His mom and dad are visiting him next summer, but he doesn't want to weight that long. Pun intended
Thanks,
Dave.

I always thought a good vice is the center of my work space, like having a third hand thats got a superman strong grip.
But I lreally like my angle grinder too:D

I'm sure I remember using one of those exact vises in my training to become an engineer.

For a small workshop that had no money, that thing was one hell of a beast to have shipped to England :D

Dave if you can take it apart shipping by USPS Partial Post for 70 Lb would be about $46.Some times you have to get creative but all the hassles are worth it.

akivory - I never thought of taking it apart. I will check that out.
