I got a Buck 110 at WalMart last week for $22 bucks. Love it. I have since bought a Buck 371 Stockman and a Buck 119. Love them too. Made a Buck fan out of me.

They aren't high-end knives and are only 420HC steel, but they are sharp enough for me and a great value.

You guys consider yourselves HOOKED! It gets worse from here :) I know :)

Congrats on the new knives.

I think Buck knives (and SAK's for that matter) are some of the best values out there. Plenty of knife for 99.9% of what people need knives for, durable as all get out, excellent customer service and warranty, at great prices. If I could only have three knives I would choose a Buck 110, Buck Stockman (either 301 or 303) and a SAK of some kind. Actually, that wouldn't be a bad combination to put together for someone as a present. Gives me an idea for a few people I know. :)

You'll be bidding on two-dots on eBay soon. Don't worry. It's normal.

Buck 110s really are a great value, a fact of which I was reminded recently (see my Buck 110 Epiphany topic).

It's interesting that my new Buck 110 made from 420HC will easily outcut my new Spyderco Endura made from VG10. I even reprofiled the edge of the Endura until it was as thin as I could possibly get it. The Buck still takes a superior edge and even though it doesn't "feel sharp" as long, it continues cutting and slicing better for quite while.

Edge geometry: check!
Excellent heat treat: check!
Feels great in the hand: check!
Fit and finish excellent: check!
Price very reasonable: check!

It's a winner.

My Cabela's Buck with the S30V is now my "if I need a really, really sharp blade" carry knife, and the Endura is now the utility knife/beater/paint scraper/letter opener.

Just a quick question , my new 110 has a 2005 blade stamp and the box it came in has 12/20/04 on the bottom lefthand corner of the label . The code on the label is B110 -00-0 . Does that mean they started stamping blades with 2005 symbol at the end of 2004 , or they used older boxes or my knife didnt come in the same box as it left the factory ? any ideas . Also can someone tell what the stamp is , i thought i read somewhere its the shape of idaho .

Duncan,
Your post has me confused. If you have a 2005 110 blade, it should have the outline of the state of Idaho just to the left of the 110 in tang stamp. It is possible that a knife made in late 2004 may have a 2005 blade in it. When they run short of blades near the end of the year, Buck will start the next year's tang stamp in order to be "up-to-date" for the next calendar year. Please remember this caveat: Year marks are always "close" but they are not necessarily "dead-on". I hope this helps!

Larry or Joe or someone knowledgable :) ,

Just out of curiosity and I'm sure it varies from year to year and model to model, but are you more likely to have too many blades produced during a given year or too few?

The question came up a few months ago, but I never asked. I ask because the two latest new Bucks in my collection both have 2005 dates on the box, but the 301 has the 2004 tang stamp and the 110 has the 2005 stamp. The 301 box is dated 2/05 and the 110 is dated 5/05.

Also, are the dates on the boxes the date of manufacture or the date of packaging? I'm guessing the latter.

I would also assume that the 110 would have the widest variance in tang stamps over a given year since so many are made and sold.

Thanks for the reply guys . The stamp on the blade is 2005 ( i looked on Bucks website) its just that living in the UK i wasnt sure what shape Idaho was ( now i know :D ) .

Cheers

You're not alone... :D When i got my first '05 I couldn't figure out *what* that glyphic was...Who would put a state on a knife blade??? :p

Now, if they'd put a potato on the blade, I'd have known what it stood for... ;)
