My new 710 rattles

I decided to go with a 710hs after owning a 705-410 for quite some time now. The size is better for me and it isn't too flashy for field training.

The tool is awsome, but something is rattling on the inside when the blade is not locked out. There is no noise when the blade is locked out. I don't believe this to be normal as my 705 is tight as an airlock. No noise ever.

Any comments or suggestions?

It is probably the blade stop pin. It sounds like some of my Emersons that have just a pin held in place by the tension of the pivot pin. I much prefer the ones that are screwed down just for that reason. It is one of the reasons I like my BenchMade 420 Resistor also. The stop pin is screwed in place and held there so it doesn't slide back and forth it the holes in the liners.

I find this rattle of stop pins very irritating when it involves a knife that is supposed to be 'tactical'. They make the blade black, and the handle subdued and give it all the goodies to make it a combat ready weapon or something that could be used that way in a pinch and put a rattle in it. Go figure.

My 710HS does exactly the same thing. I've been meaning to disassemble it and figure out what it is. It's certainly nothing critical, it's just an annoyance. If it's the stop pin (which makes sense), a drop or two of superglue, or even just a piece of paper between the pin and the liner will probably elimate the rattle.

Coincidentally, my only other AXIS lock is also 705-401, which has no rattle either.

I used my 710HS all day today. I just checked it again...no rattle here.

I have a 705 that rattles. I know, it's annoying, but it don' mean nuthin'.

If it really bugs you, ship it Benchmade and they'll take it apart and put it back together so that it rides quiet. All it costs you is postage.

I would disassemble it. Something is loose in there. Find it, go get it!

or, use the lifetime warranty (that you paid for) like a sensible person would

But you would miss out on the adventure of taking a clock apart and putting it back together again, so to speak.

Quite honestly, I would get a big paper bag and hold the whole thing inside it while I took it apart piece by piece. I hate rattles!

I understand the urge. :D AND, that way you don't suffer seration anxiety while your new knife spends two weeks away from you in Oregon.

Seriously, they're not that complicated. Presuming you don't feel the urge to dissamble the scale/liner sandwiches, it's fairly easy to take apart and reassemble.

Yep, my 705 still rattles, just a little. But only when it's closed.

It HAS to be the stop pin.

Here's my bet - you have Loctite? Or superglue. Close the knife. Get a toothpick so you can do the tinier-drop-than-a-drop thing, and put one of those tiny drops on each side where the stop pin goes into the liner. Capillary action will suck it in where it needs to go. Put the closed knife down on its spine, so any excess drips AWAY from the Axis lock parts.

This is the same thing Planterz said, I'm just saying it in more detail and using my own words so I can pretend it's my idea. :D :D :D

its a stop pin for sure, it's not a first topic on this subject,
an I had same broblem with my 710M2 (truly said it's not a problem for me:)

Hhmm, that is odd.

Mine does not rattle at all.

Did the touch of super glue do the trick guys?
