I am the proud owner of this 72x2inch grinder, made by Australian knifemaker, bladesmith and toolmaker, Hardy Wangemann. It was a sh#$ to get out of the car when I got home but after playing with it for a few minutes WOW !! It runs a simple 1hp motor, uses a pulley system that is adjustable speed. Has a quick-interchangeable flat platen and contact wheel. Tracks very precisely, runs relatively quiet and the construction is simple, straightforward and rugged. I'm told it should last me a lifetime. Now I can do some REAL hollowgrinds. I'm still waiting for the new belts to arrive from the abrasives people. Check it out... Jason.

Yes, thats correct. I've now found that the whole machine raised another 3 inches from the ground will place it in an even better position for the way I hollowgrind. Jason.

The motor is mounted on loose hinges (I kept the screws untightened). The motor is a good 20-plus lbs. To change speeds, just lift the motor (watch your back !!) and position the belt on the correct pulley, drop the motor to tension the belt. Its all gravity.

Thanks Jason. I figured you had some kinda lever springy thingie.

I tried that setup once but the motor wasn't that heavy and it didn't work.
