Just wanted to give a heads up on an awesome little knife to those who don't have one... I got mine earlier in the week and it is awesome it's a 2 1/2 fixed blade of aus 8 steel the handle is just long enough to fill my hand readily, (i'm average size but my hands are large for my frame) the blade is razor sharp I got mine with a kydex neck sheath... Which makes it very acessable when hiking with a pack on, as I experienced to day while hiking with my son in a pack on my back. I needed to use my knife several times mostly to cut some food up, but my hand went naturally to it... I feel this would make an outstanding utility/edc knife and if coupled with a larger blade or an axe an ideal woods knife As it seems like it would be outstanding as a small game /fishing knife...and I can say it whittles like a charm...The knife by itself- can be purchased for a scant 10...dollars @ the ag russell site a kydex and neck and a leather sheath are also available...The blade is slightly ,ore flexibl than I am used to but when left within it's niche this is an ideal blade...and I can say from first hand experience the customer service is second to none...

How large a pack did you have to get to be able to fit your son in it? ;)

I do like those blades, though, and have thought about getting one. I'm also glad that they took care of you so well. Thanks for the review.

I love those little blades too. I've given them to family and friends, and sold a bunch of my modified ones here on the forums. I carry mine alot. Its so light, I forget its even there.

Its modified like these. Just makes a great little knife even better. I added a bead blast finish, sculpted grips, thumb notches and one of my own kydex sheaths.

I have been looking at those, I think it should go on the list to get.

Definitely a must have....Hey spooky I had to poke some air holes in it LOL ....Naah it's one of those "Kelty Kids" it's a frame pack with a seat built in for the little guys it also has a small cargo pack attatched the set up is nice for day hiking But rough on those herniated disks (Damned Ju-Jitsu) and the little guy loves it, smiles the whole way...as for the AG russell I couldn't be happier I'm gonna buy a few just to have around....

I just got mine a little while ago as well. It really is a handy little bugger! I've used mine for mostly food but man is it SHARP! Glad you like it RR I know I love mine.

i liked mine enough i put some osage orange scales on it and use it for my Sunday-go-meetin' knife.
i need to get some more, they would look good in mesquite or curly maple also.

I am looking at one...I love the idea of the leather sheath in the pocket. I have heard a ton about them!

question...if this knife is really sharp, how well does the pocket sheath hold up? The sheath looks rather thin and soft.

Awesome, Rescue...its way, way up on my "buy one of these days" list as my "urban/office friendly looking" fixed blade. It looks like it could do anything from open a box to cut a slice of pizza and not cause "Debi from accounts recievable" to freak out.

That about covers me in the urban jungle.

I bought 2 of them back a few years.
Got 1 kydex neck sheath.
I smoothed up the handle a little and that's it.
Have not used the other one yet.

It is not a stabber or chopper, but it's a great little cutter.

I've had an A. G. Russell Woodswalker for years. It makes an excellent bird & trout knife (I'm actually making an assumption on the bird part, but I know it cleans trout:rolleyes:).

I hope RescueRiley doesn't mind my temporarily hijacking his thread, but I would like to point out to all the neck knife fans out there that paracord lanyards are a bad idea. Paracord is very strong and could be a very effective noose in the event of a fall or attack. If you like paracord, you can get break-away snaps that you can put on a lanyard. Also, Benchmade is now selling their neck knife tethers two for $3 on their website. Granted, you may loose the knife when the breakaway gives, but you can always replace the knife.

But back to the point of the thread, for what they cost, the Woodswalker is probably the best knife A.G. Russell makes. They are a great knife for any outdoorsman (or outdoorswoman).

The sheath is actually pretty darn thick Azis. It's probably around 9 or 10oz leather. It's holdin up just fine but I found out last night that it doesn't have any waterproofing on it; so mink oil or linseed oil would take care of that after a good rub into the leather.

Cool mods there scottang.

I'd love to see pix of WEB2's or anyone else's tricked-out Woodswalkers.

Good point I almost always use mink oil or other conditioning for moisture for my leather.
It is hard to tell thickness from the photo and I was concerned about cutting it, I like the idea of a pocket sheath for this one.

I think that since everyone is really talking this up, that A G should send us all one for the promotional value!

I AGREE!! I just did a little mod on the sheath last night. I wanted to carry my Arkansas stone with me for touch ups and light reprofiling, so I just cut two parallel lines and wet formed the resulting strap with the stone. Came out nicely and now I always have a stone with me. You WW fellers might give it a shot if you're so inclined.

If I had a Woodswalker right now, I'd use it to eat my lunch in the lunchroom everyday!

My coworkers would say, "That's cool..what is it?"

I'd say "A fine quality, reasonably priced A.G. Russell Woodswalker, of course, conveniently available at agrussell.com."

That's what I (and Azis) would do!

Jus' shayin', you know?

I'm using the Russell pocket sheath to carry a Bark River Mini Canadian (after wet molding it to that knife's shape). The sheath is pretty thick and sturdy. The half that the knife fits into is triple-thickness and quite rigid. The thin half is single thickness and flexible so that it conforms to the shape of your thigh when in the pocket. It's a great way to make a fixed blade an edc.

I made belt sheath for mine. In fact I am wearing now. I'm doing yard work, listening to the race and unpacking my dad's estate which is boxed up in my garage, where ever the 3 yo travels... I found a stone which is why I am here now. A few licks with the woods walker and I can do S's in packing paper with it. I love these little knives. With the trend towards thick blades, I find these little guys refreshing.

There's a great discussion about safe neck-carry in this thread:

That Woodswalker reminds me of a Schrade Sharpfinger, in a good way.
