Hey guys I got my first HI today! I made a trade and got the AK Bowie. When I opened the box I was speechless. This thing is a beast. Its the biggest knife Ive ever had. I immediately took it to the garage and in no time had hacked through a couple 2x4's. It just beckons me to destroy things!

I do have a few questions... The snap button on the sheath says Oklahoma on it lol. I have read the site where it describes all the makers marks but maybe someone could help me. I will try to post some pics too. There is a crescent moon and a few other designs and the initials U. B. on the other side. Any ideas??
Thanks

Ok thanks, any idea on the maker marks? some didnt match up with the site. There is a crescent moon, a circle with hash marks around it (maybe a sun?) and the initials U.B.

I think the images need to be uploaded to a website...the ones above apear to be on cfoster's computer which we cannot access.

In the sticky threads at the top of the Himalayan Imports forum (where this thread is posted), Karda has the Himalayan Imports Link Library post which includes several Kami Mark guides. I think the newest one is New Kami's .pdf, but they're all a fun read.

Ok from that info on the sticky I found that the U.B. stands for "Uncle Bill" and the maker was "Bura" Thanks for all your help guys!

The Oklahoma on the snap is from the snaps being donated by Yvsa, IIRC.
That was done quite some time ago.

The crescent moon is Bura's (the royal kami) mark. He is no longer producing for us, sadly. He has had several strokes and cannot work. Beside that mark is probably a 4 point star, which signifies Himalayan Imports. Above those will be the devangari script for " L.B. which are Bura's initials. They stand for Lal Bahadur Biswakharma, his given name.
On the other side will be the Intials U.B., which are the initials of H.I. founder, Our Guru and Aunties late husband, Uncle Bill Martino. They are there in fond rememberance.
At the bend of the blade on khukuri's and possibly near the spine on your bowie will be the devangari script for H.I.

Being made by Bura, will make this bowie highly collectible here. Many of us will not part with Bura made pieces for the world.

Caleb,
Try using photobucket and copy the IMG tags right into your post. It's probably the easiest way.

Wow, these knives arent just knives. They have souls. I will keep Bura in my prayers. I feel very blessed to have stumbled upon this special blade. Thank you Karda.

Aaah, now that is a dilema. A creation too special to use but made too well to keep safeguarded...

AK Bowie's are pretty much undestructable under heavy reasonable use. I'd probably use that one, but for chopping wood, not for pulling nails or digging in burning embers.

Awesome. Yeah Ive already chopped with it this afternoon. It shows wear but not too bad. I didnt know what I had, I just traded a guy for it.

So should I use this knife or hang on to it as a collectable??
It's yours, It's up to you, Amigo.
What you really should do is trade it to me......:D
Honestly..... if it were me, or i was you....i'd clean it, buff it and put it away as collectible and get another one by a newer kami to beat the heck out of. But thats me and i'm a big bura fan.

Could it be one of Bura's GIANT AK Bowies?
(If so, it would be around 20" and 50 oz, with a 5/8" spine)

Its not that big Steve, does anyone have any advice on buffing it? It has a patina on it now and some wear marks. I think I will clean it up and keep it, then save for one I can destroy.
