UPS just dropped her off and I do believe it is the best fixed blade I own. The handles seem to be great, i don't think I'll have any problems with them. The blade is shaving sharp, and it is light enough I don't even know I'm carrying it. I received the older model sheath. It has no straps. Anyone considering the knife I think it's a good buy at $150. Definetly one of my best buys yet. Can't wait for the Battle Mistress.

I absolutely love my #5 as well. It's the only knife that size I've ever used which actually can chop relatively decently!. I don't think I've ever seen the newer kydex sheath, though.

I've had mine for a couple of months now. The only things that I don't like are the rubber handle and while the new bevel on the edge is interesting it's taking some getting used to. I know that not having the slabs made out of micarta is one of the compromises but it's Jerry's fault I like them so much anyway! I have, or had, a model of each of his knives(ex-wife kept hers) and I think that for any serious use the micarta can't be beat.

My #7 should be here by the end of the week. After reading Mike Turber's awesome review of the #7 (see knife reviews) I've been thinking about having some G10 scales made for it. Mike listed his recomendations at the end of his review, and they are all very do-able by a competent knife smith. If you havn't checked out this review, you owe it to yourself to give it a look. You think you like your Basic now? Wait till you read this! You're gonna love it!
