All in all it's a solid little knife. I had recently sold an Elmax Blur as I was getting too comfortable with that knife. The Kershaw Blur is a lot like the Spyderco Delica which is a lot like a Buck 110 and a host of other knives that can serve as perfect EDC's or "if you only had one all around" folding knife what would that knife be? Fill in the _________. Knives like the 110, trappers, small Sebenza, mini-grips make for great EDC's.
I am still having a love/hate relationship with my large Starbenza which I got over the winter. It's an awesome knife that I don't feel comfortable carrying around anywhere in the suburbs of NJ or NYC. It's such an awesome knife when you first get open it, the first thing anybody I imagine says is holy cow, CRK crammed a whole lot of blade into that handle of the large! At least that's what I was thinking to myself. About 3.6" worth! I broke my edc rule when I got the large Sebenza. I hate to say it but I was mesmerized by the overall package. It's a great knife that sits in my drawer unless I go hiking, camping or am in my yard, a 3.6" blade is just too much blade to have around for the light duties that I normally do.
Anyhow the Camber fits this niche really well. It's slim, the handle gives you a solid purchase to manipulate the blade for most hand sizes. Ergonomically the Blur is a little bigger and more comfortable in hand. But the compactness of the Camber in having a slightly shorter blade, thinner scales, a designed in choil and no trak grip or whatever they call that material underneath the deep carry clip really is an improvement over the Blur. The Camber is a standalone flipper and I do wish it had the Blur's angled thumbstuds as well. But anyway I'm not complaining. Going to give the Camber a go for a few months for fun and see how it does. It came close to butterknife dull btw, a first for me and Kershaw knives of which I've had the Skyline, Skyline fixed, Blur and Leek which were all razor sharp out of the box. It only took a few minutes to take a little extra steel off the edge of the Camber and it went from butterknife dull to shaving sharp thanks to the sharpmaker.
Immediately I know I don't like it as much as the Blur, the Camber is "cute" like the Skyline and supposedly an improvement over the Blur which feels like a really stout and hand filling compact knife. If you have a Blur though the Camber is redundant and the same going the other way. I can definitely see myself getting another Blur by the end of summer though. The Camber is a solid if I had only one folder EDC but I don't know yet if I would give it the props the way I would a Delica, 110 or Blur.
I might not be giving it enough credit though as it passes all of my tests right off the bat. Does it have solid edge geometry and blade shape? Check! Do I have any issue throwing it in my pocket and going to the supermarket or the gas station? No. Check! Will I use the snot out of it and not care, thus having it serve the purpose of being a knife and cutting instrument? Yes. Check!
Will see how it goes in a few months I guess! What I find the most amusing though is when I first got into the knife hobby, the Delica, Blur and 110 three of the most loved EDC's under a $100 were my least favorite knives. A few years later they've turned into my favorite knives because of how useful, compact and ergonomic they are. Locking folder that can just be carried everyday without much fuss. My Starbenza has this weird affect on me, I have to stare at it first before I stick it in my pocket. It's stupid but I do it almost every time. Whereas the other folders I don't think twice about and will use them anytime, pocket them anytime.
Anyway, here's some pics of the Kershaw Camber.
