First off I'd like to thank (blame) ThrillBilly for my most recent purchase. This thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Review-Test-Day-on-the-Farm-*VERY-PIC-HEAVY* incited a lust to acquire a BK-7 the next time I had knife funds. Turns out, the restaurant I manage at bonused this last period. Got the check yesterday, bought a 7 today.
Oh yeah, about the kydex. First, here are some pics. This is the set-up as I bought it from my local knife store:
(You can see the poor neglected stock sheath sitting in the box)
So two weeks or so ago I bought a new Fenix LD12 at my local knife store (they sell some gadgets too) and my knife guy pulled something out from under the counter to show me. It was a kydex sheath for a BK-7. He told me that one of his customers started making kydex sheaths recently and left a sheath for a BK-7 as a freebie at the store. My knife store was currently only carrying a single BK-5 of the BKT line (the rest were long sold out). My guy also told me that within a week or two they would be getting a couple BK-7s in stock and if I bought one he would throw in the sheath. He agreed to keep it under the counter for me. Long story short, one bonus check later and I was walking out with a brand new BK-7 with the sheath upgrade already taken care of.
F&F seem pretty good, even has a drain hole. Little rattling but nothing a hair dryer wont touch up. It does not have a tek-lok or anything. At first I was sure I was going to pick up a tek-lok or even cut off the front of the stock BK-7 sheath and attach the kydex to it, but the more I think about it the more I wanna leave it as is. I figure it will be great to lash to my pack or just throw into my pack as a pack knife, not a belt knife. Lately I have been preferring smaller belt knives with a bigger pack knife as back up.
I have no idea who made this sheath and I did not want to look this gift horse in the mouth too much so I didn't ask questions, but if on the way off chance the person who made it is a member here and reads this, thank you very much and please send me a PM! (The store is in Orange County, California. If you made it that should be enough info for you to recognize that it's your work.)
Thanks for looking, sorry about the length
