Got my new Gold Class 710-141 in the mail today from BladeHQ. First thing first, despite BM's hit and miss QC, I can not find any flaws in the carbon fiber handle or the Damasteel blade. That being said though, the blade opening is very stiff and feels kinda gritty. Maybe it has to break in? I have an Adamas that is butter smooth so it kind of took me by surprise. Also, the blade was not too sharp but luckily after some stropping with compounds, it took a pretty good edge. All in all though, I love the knife and it is going to stay in my collection forever probably. :)
I know they're not the best pictures, but I'm with out a camera right now so I'll post some much better pictures whenever I can.

What exactly do the inserts feel like?

They feel smooth, like a really smooth plastic. You don't feel the honeycomb metal frame. Held in hand, you can't tell the difference between the carbon and the C-Tek.

glad to see someone actually getting one.

I handled it at the Blade Show. It's nice, but I didn't think it was worth the price.

I'll be honest, it was maybe $100 dollars more than I think its worth but I don't regret buying it. Since I don't plan on selling it, whatever the secondary market value may be isn't too much of a concern for me. Still, titanium liners would have been nice.

Anyways, after carrying and fondling it the two days, it has gotten a bit smoother but not much. Might have to see about polishing the washers and making some pivot adjustments. Here are some better(slightly) pics.

That's good to know. I'm not much of a Damascus guy but that knife looks absolutely amazing.

A polished clip would really set that knife off!
Call Benchmade and ask them to send you one then post updated pics.

That's a great acquisition! It's probably about my favorite gold class, and one I hope to buy. The stiffness should just be a matter of wearing in/smoothing out. The grittiness may be a result of the damascus blade. Having a not perfectly smooth blade, tang, etc. means that the axis lock bar and washers are riding against a bunch of little ridges. I noticed a similar phenomena with the Kershaw Damascus Leek. It smoothed out really well, though one can still feel the detent ball riding against the ridges in the tang.

Makes sense now that you mention it. I also have a Damascus Kershaw, a skyline and it was like that when I first got it. As for the clip, I like it and it's actually nice because it's not painted black, it the black oxide/parkerized(spelling?) clip.

I can't believe a gold class blade came out of the factory dull and with rough action...it's not a $20 knife from wal-mart...good looking knife though!

That knife is gorgeous, I wish I could afford one. I do have a plain jane 710 coming in today, it will be my first 710. Are you gonna carry it and use it as normal or is it more of a collectible for you?

The shape of the blade, length, weight and overall size of the 710 is great for edc, you're gonna love it. As for mine, I was planning to put it in my EDC rotation but now, probably not lol. It's just too damn pretty haha. I might carry it every now and then and use it if I need to but it's gonna be my first and hopefully only safe queen.

I would probably do the same, I dont buy really dressed up knives cause I never can bring myself to use them haha. Rugged is more of my taste. You are right though, I stopped by the house to grab the 710 that was waiting on the porch and I already love it, its so compact looking in the handle but once opened its a big, powerful blade. This is gonna be awesome at work.
