Bill pint water bottles an 2liter pop bottles filled with water work well on my deck when I can't get to the wood pile or its late. You're defiately going to enjoy it;)
12ounce cans filled with water work good too

The kamis are turning out some stunning khuks. I'm very glad my M43 is from the current crop. The blades are coming in with some nice specs.

Oldschool - I haven't decided this M43's fate yet. It is so nice I may just hold off on using it for a while. It can only be pristine once... It looks good on my desk next to the other MkII's. If I change my mind, it will spend some time on the Polaris and earn its keep!

JDK1 - This M43 is nicely balanced, virtually neutral. If you closed your eyes and someone put it in your hand, you wouldn't know if it had an 8 inch blade or a 20 inch blade; quite a feat. I think this comes from taking an inch off the blade and adding it to the tang and handle. The older 13 inch blades are balanced a bit more forward in such a way that even if you close your eyes, you can feel the curve of the blade and the tip want to pull you down a little.

Another amazing thing to ponder; how does a hard material like horn feel so soft and warm in your hand? It also has much more grip than you would think, even the polished ones. When you look at a horn handled kukri you would think it would be just the opposite; rigid, slippery and uncomfortable.

Does anyone else get that impression with their horn handles?

I agree about the horn. I like the way it feels in my hand and the way it looks on the blade. Horn can also have some fantastic looking grain to it. There can be some really nice swirls of gray and white in there and these are near impossible to photo but when you see them in person you just have to love them. It is the reason I often wind up with two f some type of blade because I just want one with horn and one with wood. So I can behold and save back the horn one (I don't know how to work the stuff myself) and use the wood one because I do know what to do with wood.

Shortwinger, I feel the same. I don't want to mar my new toy. It's too pretty and nice. I could buy another! Then I could put this one away until the end of times when I'm made a commander in the Republic of Texas Zombie Eradication Forces. It would make a great zombie decapitator.

Glad the M-43 made it OK
