So after my initial review and test...I got to work. I have never tried any of this, so I know it aint the best job in the world. Im satisfied with the end result, IMO looks better then the factory coating.

Step 1- STRIPPING
Photo-0274.jpg

That stripper did a great job, was in the low 30s outside...soaked it 45 minutes, scraped 95% right off, resoaked it for another 15 minutes and 99% came off. Little Brass-Brushing and it was time to sand.

Step 2-SANDING

what it looked like after the stripping & brassbrushing & 400grit

End result.

I started at 400grit, then 800, 1,000 and 1,500grits...then 00 and 000 steelwool for a finisher.

Step 3-Patina (grapefruit)

Becker Sammich!

Figgered 25pds was enuff.

I let it sit in grapefruit for 21/2 hours.

After I removed it I rinsed it off, then rinsed it with a baking soda solution....dried, and oiled it (RemOil)

Step 4- SHEATH
While my grapefruit did it's work, I modded (very crudely) the sheath.

Photo-0288.jpg

Photo-0289.jpg

Used the guts out of 550 paracord for thread. Not pretty stitches but they're strong. (kinda like me LOL)

Photo-0291.jpg

Used a Magic Marker to color the thread so the horrible stitching isn't as noticable.

It works...no more "floppy fish" sheath!

Step 5-LINERS

I made a set of grip liners...but didn't care for ''the look" so I didn't use them. *edit* I ended up finishing them and installed them, I like the end result.

Step 6- Final Touches & Assembly

The tape allowed a couple small leaks so I hadda resand the non-patinaed portion...just went over it with 1,000grit

Was a fun project...I needa buy some more LOL

Like it indeed! The grapefruit sandwich was a cool way to do both sides. Nice job Thrill!!

Nice work. Love these how to type threads. I liked the grapefruit sandwich. ;)

Looks pretty good!!
I like the idea on the liner material.
A more opaque case might look better, Blue or Red maybe.

Very nice!! Thanks for the easy to follow step by step instructions...might have to slice up some citrus fruit with the BK-11 and get to work.

i should research glow in the dark liners :>

Nice work..thanks for the step by step too.

The contrast between the grapefruit patina and the polish looks great.
I'm going to have ago at some liners sometime.

Pete.
