I just aquired three new in the box Boker folders and all the boxes have "Off the wall" under the model number on the end. Could someone tell me what that means?

Thanks,
Dave H.

I'm guessing they were either on display or the seller thought the knives were eccentric or unconventional??

Seems that I've found the answer to my own question on the web, but it took some looking.

BOKER KNIVES FOLDERS, LIMITED OTW
Boker Knives, Limited Folders: OTW Stag Stockman, and Trapper with Snakewood, Delrin, Brown, Gray, Red and Yellow Jigged Bone, and Smooth Red Bone handles. Limited run!

Boker Knives OTW are limited, short run uncataloged items.
OTW needs a little explaining: the acronym stands for "off the wall". How this term originated stems back to Boker and their displays at trade shows, where dealers and distributors get their first look at the new merchandise for the year.

When you visit Boker at a trade show, the salesmen have all of the cataloged knives displayed in cases around the booth. They show and demonstrate each of the new items, and request your input and purchase. Then, when all of the new cataloged items have been shown, the salesman takes you to a knife display that is mounted on the wall. This display is just a flat board with several horizontal magnetic strips, with all kinds of wonderful knives stuck to the magnets. Trappers with odd and unusual handles and shields, canoes with strange bolsters or blades, whittlers, congress knives, peanuts, and just about anything else you could imagine with strange cool construction. They are all low, limited run items. Some production quantities are as small as 50 - 60; others higher, but rarely over 250 or so.

When the salesman shows you the board, it really is a sight to see. And when you say "I want to see that one right there", the salesman literally takes your knife right "off the wall", hands it to you, and explains all of the unique features. Now "off the wall" is understandable to all.

Interesting info. Thanks for digging it up and taking the time to post it for us.:cool:

Now I just have to figure out if them being OTW is a good thing or a bad thing.:thumbup:or:thumbdn:

This might be bad because it will be difficult to either replace them or get them repaired with replacement parts.

Well, I suppose that if I was planning on actually "using" them, that part might be a consideration. :)
