As many of you already know I just got home about a week ago from doing the Wolverine Knife Show and a reunion with my best friend in Nam, Gil. The night before I left for home Gil brought out pictures he had taken while in Nam and several other things of interest. The thing that interested me the most was the Christmas card he had sent his folks. It was made out of a C-ration box top. I can almost taste the beans with meat balls as I'm typing this. The card was for Christmas of 1969. He had most the fellow's in our mortar platoon sign it. As you can see nicknames were real popular over there. I'm the third one down, Sgt Frog. After my wife took a look at it she said Sgt Porky's name could have been signed by me. I told her I didn't remember if it was me or not but after giving it some more thought she was right. Sgt Porky had just joined us on LZ Beaver where the card was made. It was my first forgery. :D I do take credit for giving Porky his new nickname. I had taken pictures of the card while I was at Gil's. Anyway he decided to give it to me and told me to put it in my Bible. That's where it will be.

Thanks, Ray... And thanks for goin'!

That's fun Ray, i'm sure it's a piece of history you will cherish.

thanks for sharing it with us!

you can tell you have yourself a good friend when, no matter how much time passes, you reconnect like time never passed at all.

Where in your bible does that marker rest right now, Ray?

Its a sleep in Ezekiel right now. That 40 years seemed to disappear once we got back together.

I never made it to Nam. I served in the Air Force toward the end of the war. Thanks for your service Raymond. That C- Ration box top is something to be cherished. I hope all that signed it made it home.

Have consumed a few cans of that, yes, you can still almost taste it after all this time, like the taste of water from a waterbuffalo, but you know, you can still meet a man and know within five minutes if he will cover your backside, some things never go away. Soldier on. Bill

Very cool Ray My Dad was a supply man in the air force. As a kid if we wanted to go camping witch was all the time. He made us take the green cans and a P38. can opener did you know that a cinnamon roll can last 30 years in a can.
