I bought a pair of Converse Desert Tactical Boots on sale from LA Police Gear few months ago and wore them for the second time today for an early morning hike before it got too hot outside. The seam in the back on the right boot popped. It is not fixable because where the plastic meets the suede split at the seam.

Other than that, the boots are comfortable. I just emailed Converse customer service, but does anyone know about Converse customer support? Good? Bad? Tips with dealing with them?

I don't know how your law works there but that seems odd. Here, the goods would be returned to the retailer not the manufacturer. I would be taking my money back immediately from L A Police Gear. If they were to try to worm their way out by referring me to Converse they would have a big phat legal problem.

get your $ back and then buy some REAL boots from red wing or danner.

UPDATE: I Sent them some photos of the tear in the boot and they are going to send me another pair. Thanks Converse!

Most boots anymore are crappily made. I'm happy when I get 2 years out of a pair. I mean hiking/backpacking boots.

Man that is a fact. Hard to find US made, too. More and more are having them made in China, Taiwan, etc. Even the companies that have been known over the years for making their boots in the US, like Chippewa, Red Wing, Danner, etc. have more and more models made somewhere else. I think the quality certainly suffers.

Those converse desert boots are awesome when i eventually chewed thru mine i removed the inserts and put them in a pair of altimas the insoles are so comfy. im gonna try and get naother pair before i go to afghanistan they really are great boots.

Converse should stick with making sneakers and let the boot companies make boots. I had a pair that saw the whole sole come off. Luckily I was at the firehouse and I had a spare pair (Hi-Tec Magnums). I returned the boots and bought a new pair of Hi-Tecs.

These were made in China, but they were really comfortable. We'll see how the next pair holds out. For day hikes they seem fine. Based on my first pair, I will have to wait and see how the durability is before I use them for more adventuresome jaunts.
