Hi Everyone,
I got a new Brend Hawk/Hatchet in from 1SKS a couple of days ago. I am pleased to say that the edge on mine came shaving sharp and very evenly ground!
I really loved the limited edition Brend hawk when it was released. The price was more than one of my means could afford, so this field grade version is perfect for me and a great starting point into hawk ownership. I also found the small area of laser washout that was mentioned in an earlier thread. I took care of it on mine by filing that area even, then regrinding the two sides back to a smooth juncture. I then polished the spike edges to match the cutting edge. This gives all the poking and cutting surfaces a shining steel contrast to the black finish. I even got carried away and polished the corner of the steel along the top sides of the edge of the head, from cutting edge to spike, making a nice accent there. Then came the three painful attempts at the Strider wrap. Boy is that hard to do and keep even and consistant. It is done good enough for now though.
Andy, I think you guys have a hit here in this Brend field version. Great product at an incredably inexpensive price point. I had fun personalizing it with my own touches also. This is a great bang for the buck tool and a perfect one piece design. I will post pictures later to show my new baby off.
One question, does anyone make a cost effective kydex sheath for this yet, without having to send it away that is? Thanks for the Great product Andy! Happy holidays everyone!!!
