Added a seller provided pic of this in the wlderness knife thread but I hadn't gotten it yet. Finally put it all together. Hand polished the blade good and shiny (as I feel polished carbon steels are more rust resistant than say satin or bead blasted). Treated the leather. And got me a chunky .50" mischmetal rod with cherry handle. Bought the 12" and cut off what I didn't need so I could have a spare bare rod. Also picked up a super striker for the set. I EDC it now in my Maxpedition Colossus with my other daily carry tools.

I gotta say, I love this knife. So far it has sliced and diced nicely. Edge only needed a minor touch up when I got it. Put a nice polished edge on it and it will split hairs now. Very comfortable, and I swear I could use it all day without any sort of hand fatigue. It's a very comfortable and slick handling blade. And those handles are simply beautiful.

Simply one of the best knives out there. The knife slices, it does wood work, it can cut deep or thin, and the handle can fit any hand position.

You made a GREAT choice there.

However, I don't think your Firesteel is large enough for the 10 million fires you may need to make while in the bush.

LOL, I like to overdo. While waiting on the fire steel to arrive from GG... I wet the leather down and pushed a 50 cal bullet in there to form it. Holds tight... but not too tight.

great knife and wow what a fire steel. if your knife ever doesn't work for protection you can beat whatever into submission :)

I agree with TF. One of the very best bushcraft knives in the world right there.

Here is mine in action...

Green and gold elder burl. Here is a close up. I like the beauty of elder and maple burl and the durability they have from the excellent acceptance to stabilizing that they take.

Some beauties you both have!

I definitely agree with what TF and Jeff have said about the Kephart.
The handle provides excellent comfort. It cuts and cuts!

Here's mine in Walnut:

Those are some purdy scales guys. Infi-del, I can't see you ever wearing that monstrous steel down. Looks like you'll be handing it down to the next generation:)

Man I'm lovin that knife and the monster firesteel.Where did you get that anyway?I may need to travel the world lighting fires every 15 mins.:p Awesome combo.

It's the Going Gear 50 cal 12" firesteel with cherry handle.

Here ya go: http://goinggear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=16&products_id=59

I cut off about 4 or 5 inches of it and this is what I got. Gonna take the other section and drill and lanyard hole in it and put some 550 cord through it.

Couple of warnings... never play with these steels sitting in your truck. I launched a white hot glob of the stuff right into my steering wheel and could only sit there and watch it sizzle. And wear safety glasses if you're gonna cut these with a jig saw and then grind them flush on a bench grinder... WOW at the white sparks.

Hopefully it will last as long as the knife.

Nice knife, I have three Kepharts but they are customs, might try a Bark River one someday. Great all around knife design.

Very, very handsome blade! I had one of the hidden tang ones for a while and enjoyed it, I may have to break down and try their full tang stuff. Anyone know if the handle is larger on the full tang model?

Oh, as others have said, that's one bigass firesteel.

Not sure about the handle size difference. But the full tang is very comfortable if that helps. I know that's subjective as hell.

You shoulda seen the firesteel before I but it down LOL.
