Guys -

Had a lot of Buck knives over the years going back to a 105 my BIL gave me when I was in high school in 1971. This is my first 124 and she's quite a specimen. Really fine condition, including the sheath. I know the knife dates to somewhere from 1972 to 1986 but I'm wondering if there's a way to get a closer reading on it's age, maybe from the sheath? What a well made best example of the American Bowie knife. Post a pic of yours if you wish.

A handsome model for sure. Check the pommel and guard with a magnet and let us know if it adheres to these. And I'll get it narrowed down. DM

Congratulations on what I'm sure will be your first of many new 124's. 😉. I believe you chose a nice one for your first. I've got a new one, a BCCI model with Lucite handle, a rosewood and a burgundy mircata. The burgundy below is the only one I have a photo of at the moment. Congrats again on your newest Buck!

Thanks Badhammer and that's a beauty you've got there as well. Was a bit surprised at how beefy the handle is. Feels very good in the hand.

This 124 has the swivel sheath, a lanyard hole and stainless guard and pommel. Making it from early 1973 (1st quarter). Hammers is from 2nd quarter or mid 1973 as it has the lanyard hole and maroon micarta. Yours having no lanyard hole but a stainless pommel is most likely from late 1973. (last quarter we'll say)

Excellent info as usual David. Appreciate it. Ha! 1973 was the year I graduated from high school.

Utah, aluminum guard and pommel were used after 1973 and that year was the last year for a lanyard hole and maroon micarta. Hope this helps. DM

Very nice, Utah! Here's mine from the late 70s. Anyone know when Buck added the sheath rivet to the top of the stitching?
