ok so it has been a few months since i have bought a new knife...well unless you consider my depressive buying of the 119 and sak farmer...but that is besides the point. so anyway, it has been a few months and i am gonna get a new knife. i get a nice big bonus...big for me atleast(600) so i figured i could splurge a bit. i am look at a buck/mayo. either the tnt or the mayo. now i have an alias 1 and like the size of it, sorta similar to the tnt right? but i am kinda scared of the waiamea. i have a native but barely ever carry it cause it is so small. what do ya'll suggest?

well that depens on why you want to buy one...
the latest is the texas star which is SweeT ! a tad on high retail side
this as a collectable and or show off knife...
if as a big daily user and carry some fancy i sujest the leather sided one ten..
reasonable if a club member...
or a custom shop knife...
carefull you sound like you are about to be getting hooked big time with buck feaver!

Between the waimea and the TNT, I would definately say the TNT.
They are both a tad small for me but the TNT would be my first choice.
Oh heck buy one of each, it was a bonus afterall :D

If you think a spyderco native (I am assuming that is the native you are talking about) is too small, stay away from the Waimea. I love its small size personally, but prefer the blade shape of the TNT. If you like the bigger ones, the TNT is an easy choice.

Hmmm...having to choose between the TNT or the Waimea...Ginger or Mary Ann?

I don't know about the Texas Star that Dave talks about. Seen only pics. But it is nice and probably will be on my Santa List.

If ya don't want to do as WH4F suggested (get both), then I would definitely go for the TNT (like Schiesz). It is a GREAT knife. BUT, I kine like the clip point of the Waimea over the TNT...however, if I had to choose just one, it would be the TNT due to size.

If you want, I will take a pic of 'em next to a 110 for scale purposes. Let me know.
But for now, here ya go:

well you all have just cemented my descision. i will get the tnt. sounds like ill be happy. nice knives by the way buckaholic. and i would get both but i do have school bills to pay =[ oh well the tnt will cheer me up lol

hey goose i changed my mind. could you post the 110 with the tnt for size pruposes? you know, closed, open, top bottom pics etc...thanks in advance man.

You want a pocket knife, admittedly a tad bigger than a 110, that will exude quality? You want a beauty (brass and rosewood), that happens to be super-sharp S30V? Well, you want a Buck #419 Folding Kalinga Pro, shown between a (top) #408 Kalinga Pro and an '07 'Collector's Tin' 110. That should leave ~80% of that bonus for those mundane real bills.

Stainz

PS I happen to like the $40 WW S30V Spydie Native - and my $16 Vic Farmers... but I love that #419!

you know stainz, i looked at the kalinga...but me and linear locks just dont match. all the ones i have just dont work right and fail. even the ones from buck. i stick to lockback, framelock, axis, and ball lock(spyderco?). plus i think the folding kalinga is kinda ugly, especially compared to the tnt. but thanks for the suggestion.

... plus i think the folding kalinga is kinda ugly ....

Oh wow! That hurt! Like calling my grandkid ugly ;)

hey goose i changed my mind. could you post the 110 with the tnt for size pruposes? you know, closed, open, top bottom pics etc...thanks in advance man.
No apologies from me for the finger smudges and non-polished bolsters.
These knives are users.

Been sick, and I'm finding this discussion kinda late:

. . . i get a nice big bonus...big for me atleast(600) so i figured i could splurge a bit. i am look at a buck/mayo. . . what do ya'll suggest?

(edits mine) Bonus? Them's rare these days. Congrats. I love the Mayos , and pretty much anything Buck puts out. TNT is a good choice. BUT, if it was me, and a bonus, I'd have to go for a Custom Shop 110. I won't get that chance often, so when the opportunity presents itself, one of them will be comin' home.

Either way, yer buyin' a Buck. You'll be happy, even if it's one of Buckaholics' "ugly grandkids"! (Personally, I love the Kalingas . . . )

thx - cpr
