Always wanted to pick up a Cat, but I really wanted to get one with jimping. Found one for $35 shipped, so I figured I'd go for it.

Good size, fairly smooth action, good jimping, grippy G10. I got my money's worth. I've only had limited use with it, but thus far Spyderco's heat-treat of the 440c is decent. They did it right.

I saw some people asking about how these knives stack up, so hopefully my mediocre pics provide a decent depiction. I'd still take the other two over it, but for the price the Cat is a solid EDC option. A keeper.

Idk about you but i would check it. My one i have that my gf uses frequently i don't let her carry anymore because it has lock slip. Can hit the spine on my leg and get it to snap shut.

Thanks for the heads up, but cutting fruit and letters in my office and slicing an empty water bottle or pizza box on occasion is about as "hard use" as it gets for this one. It does fine for those tasks.

Oh, and I definitely wouldn't give either of these to my GF. I let her take the Matriarch 2 :p

I haven't had mine slip, but there is a lot of up and down play in the blade. Nothing like all of the other Spydies that I own which have rock solid locks. I guess as a letter opener it would be fine, but I don't really use mine because of the lock and because I have many others that are better.

Yea I don't get why it's like that. It's actually sad because I mean it's cheaper but it wasn't dirt cheap.

I'm pleased to have stumbled onto this thread. I have both the DF-2 and the Chaparral. I wanted something similar to the Chaparral that had a liner lock, with the wire pocket-clip and jimping on the thumb-ramp and finger-choil and it appears the Cat fits that bill.
