Phil Boguszewski...a maker I don't hear a whole lot about on the forums. I saw this piece on Bladeart's website, took the gamble and ordered one. I'll tell you what guys & girls, this is one of the BEST customs I've ever seen and I've seen or owned a few (Chew, Carson, Mayo, Obenauf, Duncan, Terzoula, DeVilliers, Lightfoot, Tighe, etc.) This beauty sports a 3 3/4" BG-42 blade (HAIR POPPING SHARP), maroon linen Micarta scales, Jeweled Ti liners and orange peeled polished bolters (any body know the bolster material?).

The fit and finish is superb, tremendous, flawless, impeccable. It is the smoothest foldered I've ever handled...bar none. The flipper actually works....even in an upright vertical position. Just give it a light flick and it's out for business, yet the detent is set to keep the blade from opening accidentally. Almost forgot, the blade-to-handle ratio is exceptional and his logo is stamped into, not stenciled onto, the blade surface like so many makers do.

Am I excited? Yeah. Am I bragging? A little. Do I think this is one of the finest tacticals made? You betcha.

Enjoy the pics fellow knifenuts. This has the number 40 stamped on the handle. Does Phil number each Cobra consecutively and can I assume this is a serial number?

I'd love to hear from other Boguszewski owners! Send some mail and shoot the breeze.:D  ;)

Great knife! I've handled one and must agree about the level of finish on Phils knives.

You signature line shows a warped sense of humor...........I LOVE IT :)

Lost my Cobra in a trade gone bad.

Miss it dearly. It was easily one of my most favorite knives.

Hardys, sweet piece. I have been planning to add a Cobra to my collection for a while now. I'm surprised Larry actually had one!

On the bolsters, it would be Titanium, Phil uses a wire wheel from what I understand to do the orange peel and steel won't do that.

I have a modified Wegner hunter frame lock and love it! Of course I'm the one who did the modified part so I kind of have to love it.

Michael, you have the worst damn luck of anyone I think I know on the forums, sorry to hear you lost the Cobra, who to if you don't mind me asking?

Here's my Bogie, like I said, it was a frame lock but I added scales to give it a little more body, one of my favorite big folders :)

Hey thanks for the pics and review!

I have never handled a Boguszewski but his name keeps coming up whenever there is a "which knife is the sharpest" or "which knife is the smoothest" thread...so I have always been intrigued by his work...brag away, it's a beauty :)

Oh, and I do have a question...you compare the knife to Carson and Terzuola...how "heavy-duty" is it compared to these two makers? I have never heard of the Cobra being referred to as "stout" so this would add yet another dimension...

Colorado has this silly 3.5" limit on "concealed" blades, and the Cobra is 3.75", so I traded it for a 3.5" TnT.

But the TnT turned out to be 3 5/8", so it really didn't do me any good. I ultimately traded it for a 3.25" one (thanks Tom) so I came out OK but I sure miss that Cobra!

I've talked to Phil a couple of times about making a one-off 3.5" version but I've never gone through with it.

Thanks to you guys for responding. Sorry to hear about your loss Michael.

Chad, you did a nice job adding those scales. Is that Micarta? Thanks for the info on the bolsters too.

RL..IMHO the Bogie seems to be as strong as a Carson or Terzoula if comparing to 3 1/2" to 3 3/4" blade lengths. I just sold a Medium Carson Model 4 to help pay for the Bogie and it appears to be very close in "stoutness". The lockups are both rock solid, the liners are about the same thickness, the blade stock is about the same thickness and both have solid lock up. To get the Carson as smooth as I like it, I had to loosen the pivot screw slightly, which causes some slight blade play. The bogie has ZERO blade play. The Carson seems to weigh slightly more. Although the fit and finiish have been great on most Carsons I've seen, the fit and finish on the Bogie is AMAZING.

I have only handled non-bolstered Terzoula models and they have not had the same rock solid feel as the Bogie. IMHO Terzoula knives are a little over priced.

If I were to get an EDC liner lock folder for shear brute strentgh with some style, at a fair price, I'd go with a DeVilliers Path Finder.

Michael, I remember now, that was my TNT you traded him for...

Thanks Steve, the scales I did are in Black Micarta. I also did a set in Brown Linen Micarta but feel the black looks better.

That looks outstanding Steve. The Cobra is a very fine piece of cutlery. The one I had was easily the easiest to open of any custom. I've had a couple of the Bogie Wegners and really liked them also. Chad great look on the framelock. I REALLY do like that!

Steve, nice score and great pics!! I love mine, # 30.

Michael, Phil does make a smaller version now, I believe 3 1/4" blade. Arizona Custom Knives has had a couple on their site recently. I don't know if it is exclusive to them as that's the only place I've seen them for sale.

Joe

Actually the smaller one is like 3 1/8", I think -- and it has a thumbstud because it doesn't "flip" quite as well.

3.5" would be perfect. I should probably just "do it".

Mike

Yeah.., Phil's attention to fit and finsih is second to none.., the Cobra is an outstanding knife...
