My new condition on purchasing G-shocks

After getting a couple of G-shocks with a screw in caseback, I have decided that this is a feature I much prefer. Every other G-shock I had came with the flat panel attached to the watch by four screws.

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of models that have the screw in caseback. I have a DW-5000, which looks like the original G-shock, that I got from http://www.seiyajapan.com I also have a G-2700, and I now have a G-2000 on the way.

What do you guys think about the screw-in caseback vs flat plate issue?

As long as functionality isn't affected to a significant extent, it doesn't bother me, and won't (hasn't) prevented me from purchasing Casios that have desireable features.

I live in Japan, and most of the people around me that wear digital pieces wear G-shocks (it's "trendy", I don't think most people around here think about functionality at all  ); I haven't heard of a single failure due to the caseback. The only "failure" I've heard of, some guy threw a brick down on top of his watch.

I just bought my first G-shock this year, although not my first Casio (beat the first to death, an Illuminator, nice beater watch BTW), and I'm very impressed. Although it isn't very classy, you really can't beat it for functionality and price. Got a G-5600, seems to be the most functional in the $100 range, and the retro look is nice.

If you have to change the battery, screw in caseback is a nice feature. However, with the advent of the Tough Solar models, I really couldn't care less anymore. :D

Casio...I have four G-Shocks, and one ProTrek...None of 'em has a (circular) screw-on back, but that doesn't bother me, as I've had no problems with any of mine leaking.

I have a DW-003. TOugh as nails. Is it best to replace batteries myself, or have it done??

I know there are issues with some retail palces because of the waterproof guarantee.

Any advice would be great.

I have owned 3 G-Shocks and have never had a problem with the flat plate back. I don't know if I prefer it to a screw down back but it seems perfectly functional none the less.

I am sure the flat plate back is fine, and I really shouldn't say I won't buy one. But... after getting one with a steel case and screw in caseback, I prefer it a lot over the flat plate.
