Here she is, I designed it, Dave built it.

4 1/4" row of staggered sawteeth
Tapered tang
Olive Drab Linen Micarta handles

The only one! It's stamped on the opposite side with my initials. Let me know what you think. The design started about 2 years ago. I wanted an improved and updated British MOD 4 survival knife. This is the final evolution of that idea.

Looks good. You taken it out to beat it up a little yet? How's that micarta handle feel? Never handled one with micarta scales, are they slippery in wet conditions? Whatcha got in the sheath?

Nope, haven't beaten it up yet. I'll probably drool over it for a while first.

I had Dave make the pouch on the sheath to fit my World Survival Institute P60-C firestarter which is a combination firesteel, magnesium and ceramic rod imbedded into a hardwood base.

The Micarta handle is great. Micarta is tough as hell, and the way the grip is sculpted, fits my hand perfectly and comfortably. Even though the handle has high polish, because of it's shape, it will not slip. The hand locks into it. When Micarta gets wet, it gets a nice grip to it. If you have not tried a knife with Micarta scales, you should go get one! It's great stuff. I also keep my handles waxed with Renaissance Wax to give them a little more grip.

Jared, glad this worked out for you. I followed the thread on the tracker, about you stating he was making a true custom knife for you. Very nice. Now you need to get outside and put that puppy through the paces:)

Looks good, very sensible. Great firestarter!

Very nice! It's good to see practical designs done so well. Great firestarter too!

Thanks Robert H, I'm going to want you to make an olive drab Kydex sheath for it, just as soon as I can get up the nerve to send it out!

Thanks,
Jared

It fills my hand perfectly as well, you know it's in your hand when you hold it. It's got a great heft and solid weight to it. Everyone who picks it up says "Wow it's heavy!" The tapered tang makes it just a little more front heavy. Should be a great chopper. The area between the sawteeth and the point is rounded over to act as a pivot point for the thumb for use during push cuts and whittling.

That was my problem with most other sawback knives, they all seemed to have a sharp false edge which left your thumb nowhere to push on during delicate cutting maneuvers. This design solves that problem.

As Mikial Kalashnikov said:"What works is simple and what is simple, works!!!"
