Last Thursday I took delivery of a new in box Molle II Assault pack in ACU camo. Been playing with it over the last week and so far, I really like the pack. It's sturdy, has plenty of Molle webbing for my needs, Rides fine as a day pack, doesn't sway and move around when talking.

Here's the list of gear in the pack:

Space Blanket (tarp)
Ridge line & Tie downs for the space blanket/tarp
Poncho
FAK
Tinder/fire kit
Backpacking stove & Fuel
3 Meals + snacks
Canteen/GP Pouch with Canteen and cup
Forest Service Road use map & USGS Topo map for my area
Two 1" wide synch straps
TP, tooth brush, tooth paste floss
Mora 711
two Carbiners
Spare socks, Knit cap and mittens
Leather Gloves
Compass
Headlamp & spare batteries
Glow stick
1L Sports drink bottle w/water - more if I plan to be out longer
Plastic bags
Stainless steel folding trowel

*The Desert camo pouch is a Canteen/GP pouch w/my canteen and cup. My FAK, tinder pouch and some TP are in the Woodland camo Grenade pouches on the front. The knife is my Carbon Steel SOG Tigershark.

My brother and his family are coming for the weekend. Saturday, we'll be going hiking up the canyon or in the foot hills. Will probably add some extra snacks and water for my nieces. Will also probably switch the Tigershark out for a 12"-14" Machete.

Anyone else have a Molle II pack that they use and like?

Good stuff. I still love military surplus. Nice touch with the USGI canteen & pouch too. I still rock one myself and mount it the same way you do. Don't have a Molle II pack but I do have a USMC ILBE as one of my main packs (LOVE that thing) and am thinking about getting the assault pack that goes with it. It has a bit more molle webbing than yours which I like and can be found for pretty cheap. However, I already have plenty of daypacks so maybe not.

Anyway, don't forget to post pics of your hike and your gear in action!

That is a good pack, my friend has one. I am not sure I will ever change from my 5.11, rush 24 pack though. It is a medium sized backpack and very versitile. It has served me well at places like Legoland with the wife and kids, up to a weekend in the woods. Maybe a slightly smaller pack for short trips would be good. I see 5.11 has some smaller packs that clip right on the 24 or can be caried by themselves.

I just got back from a backpacking trip! My brother changed his mind from a hike to a 1 to 2 mile Backpacking trip. Instead of testing out my Molle II Assault pack, I tested out my new to me American Camper External frame pack with Military surplus padded belt and shoulder straps. Will post pictures and info in a bit.

An extra clothing layer for morning/evening? I have this: http://www.sierradescents.com/reviews/montbell/ul-down.html It's crazy warm for 4.6 oz. Also, sun protection?

I have a jacket that I take hiking and camping. But I keep them hung up until I head out, then I lash it to the pack or put it in side.

Thanks for the comments!

Will be doing another trip with my brother and his family at the end of the month. Will try to get out at least twice with my Molle II Assault pack between now and then. If I do, I'll get more pictures. Thanks for looking!
